Looking at the recent B Dunne fight on the TV I was amazed that the ref was from Dublin,I am not sure if this is the norm or happens regularly but IMO its a tad inappropriate.Ok it was not a big fight but still how much would it cost to fly a Ref in from England,I am not saying the ref last week did anything out of the ordinary but if the fight was close you are leaving yourself open to an alleged 'home decision' claim.

Thats just the way it is,......... a home "advantage " !!
I wouldnt be surprised if the judges were from Dublin too,.... It wouldnt be unusual.
I didnt see the fight by the way, so I dont know.

Since we're such a small country it's not that odd , it would look bad if the Boxing Union of Ireland couldn't provide their own refs , certainly worse than using ones from the same county as a fighter to ref the fight .

I have to agree with the original post. However, it seems this practice has been going on for years now. I have seen fights were the ref and the judges were all from one opponents country. This is ridiculous and totally unfair.
There should be neutral refs and judges in all bouts if possible...

    Look at Hatton-Mayweather and Cal-Hop...

I'd also like to know the nationality of the judges in those
bouts too. I'm almost sure 2/3 were American...

I just found out that all 3 judges in the Hatton-Mayweather bout
were American. So that's Hatton V 4 US guys, including PBF.....

    That shouldn't be allowed....

And the 3 in the Cal-Hop fight and ref were American...

Both bouts were in Las Vegas , Nevada . Therefore only judges and refs sanctioned by their commission could be used , therefore they had to and will always be American .

Not necessarily true. If the commission wants, it can authorise foreign officials to officiate. That's within their rights, but a fee is paid and it's down to money and contacts and cosy little arrangements. It's totally unfair to have 4 officials officiate a bout when all are from the same country and one of the combatants is also from that country.....Ludicrous.....

    The amateurs don't allow it....

Okay that is true , but it's not policy in Nevada , they have a select group of officials that they like to keep using .

Exactly, hence my reference to cosy little arrangements and deals.....

Presumably, that makes it very unlikely the judges will judge in favour of the 'wrong' fighter..........
