How do you calculate the price of a car minus VRT & VAT ?
    Take for example this one.!

    New Mazda6 Hatchback
    2.0 D 138 bhp Executive SE
    Price now 33,595

Can't find that exact spec on ros.ie, but the 136BHP TDI Sport is VRT'd at 30%
DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION(MM/YY): APRIL 2008
    OPEN MARKET SELLING PRICE:
    (applicable on enquiry date) €30802
    RATE OF TAX: 30.0%
    VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX:
    (payable on enquiry date) €9240
VAT is 21%, so I suppose if the 33595 is 100%+30%+21, then the base price is €22248?

    Just out of curiosity, why?

    Hmm,
Reason i ask is a buddy of mine may be getting a primary medical certificate shortly and is wondering what is the best car he could go to as he could buy them minus VRT & VAT as far as I know.
He asked me to find out how to calculate the final price he would be paying. He is also wondering shoud he go driver or passenger when applying?

VRT is 30% of the OMSP (which includes the VRT) not 30% of the post VAT price.
    Therefore:
    Car incl. VRT = 33,595
    excl VRT = 30% of 33,595 = 23,516.5 (VRT= 10,078.5)
    excl VAT = 18,578.035 (VAT = 4938.465)

Ia that right? My understanding is that VAT is charged on VRT (a tax on a tax). Therefore the total tax on the vehicle would be 30% x 1.21, or 36.3% tax in total. 36.3% of €33,595 is €12,194, so the vehicle without VRT and VAT would be €21,400 not €18,578? The whole business has always confused me, as no doubt it is intended to:(

VRT is charged on the open market selling price which includes VAT and the also VRT itself.

You could take a UK new car price and deduct the 17.5% VAT to get the nett price without any VAT / VRT here.

Pre-tax prices are often different from country to country, so use this as a guideline only.

Why not contact a dealer and ask for their help? If someone came to me with your query about an Audi, I'd have no problem helping them with these calculations.

No Point in going annoying dealers yet as he is in the deciding stage of what to buy
Then I assume he could go and talk to dealers. ;)
