Mario Kart Wii - Which controller do you use?

Just wondering which controller style people use and why. I use the Nunchuk and Wii Remote because I just can't get used to the wheel. Althought the wheel was quite good I didn't find it responsive enough.

In kdjacl household we have 6 players.

    3 wheel (girls)
    2 nunchuk(boys)
and me classic, find the classic best for corners and and tricks.

Odd that the girls use the wheel as we all know wimmenz like to play with gamepads liek they a wheel anyway in driving games.

    btw im the best :D

It's much easier to pull off tricks with the nunchuk and wii-mote.

That's my opinion too. I find it easier to drift and pull of tricks using the nunchuk style.

Also, is it possible to pull of tricks using the game cube controller? You can't shake it to do any tricks so are there alternative buttons to do this?

    Dpad same as classic.

How do you find the classic?? To me it looks really uncofortable , especially compared to a GC controller.

Classic is perfect for me, dont ahve any wavebirds so havent tried GC pads wouldnt use wires ever again tbh.

I dunno, wires are a pain in the ass but i still use the GC controller a lot. Especially or multiplayer and stuff.

The wheel is brilliant for young kids, my 4 year old daughter is doing great with it! The wheel is great fun but I don't find it responsive enough. It's great for split screen fun with a group (when everyone else is using one too) but for competitive play, I tried the classic and the nunchuk/wiimote and the latter is definitely the better of the two imo.

My mum (67), Dad (71) and brother (a flip-hot players) all use the wheel. Myself and the girlfriend use the remote/nunchuch.

    I can't use the wheel...

By the way, when you are coming down from doing a trick has anyone tried to inadvertently carry out a revert ala Tony Hawk (pressing down/up or up/down after landing)? Or is it just me :D

Personally think the wheel is gimmicky, classic controller for me.

I use the wiimote on its own. Its akward using the wheel. I've not tried the other control schemes though. Must give them a go at some stage when I'm not playing online :P

Been using the wheel, not entirely convinced. responsive but tend to get a little "lost". gonna give the nunchuk a go tonight. would fancy a shot with the classic.

The wheel and my Wavebird do the trick, both fun, I'm sure if I was playing "competitively" I'd have to go for something more responsive than the Wiimote but as it stands it's grand.

Only used the wheel so far. I like the wheel as I think its quite a big of fun.

However, will give the classic, Game Cube, and nun chuck styles all ago. To see how those control systems work.

Only been using the wheel, and tbh I love it. It's just fun! :D I'm not competitive enough with it to want the fractional difference that the joystick gives.

Besides, most of the best times looked like they were set by the wheel users when I checked...

i am getting used to the wheel, but still try to use the up/down/leftright d-pad to steer when starting. old habits die hard.

Use the Gamecube controller ,Shame N64 doesnt work. Was always my fave controller

I started off playing with the wheel. I found it hard to change direction quickly. I'm using the nunchuck now and I found it significantly easier to control. The wheel is fun but I think it will take a lot of time to perfect.

Im somewhere in between the wheel and the nunchuck/wiimote.

My Mrs steals the wheel whenever were playing together but i tend to revert back to it when im playing alone....its just more fun really

I played last night for the first time with nunchuck and wiimote. found I had a lot more control and actually won a few games!

The wheel is more fun when you have 2+ players...but when playing online or you are feeling more competitive, the nunchuck and wiimote is the way to go!

I've only used the wheel yet but I must give the Nunchuk a go to see how it compares.

The nunchuck and wiimote. I tried the wheel a few times but didn't like it.

I think the wheel works quite well!!!

Have the place to myself tonight so gonna give the Nunchuk a go. I have high hopes it will improve my performance on the bikes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,632 ✭✭✭SligoBrewer

i use either the wheel or the gamecube controller

Used the Nunchuk, much much better, much more control and better responsiveness. the Wheel is good fun but I'll be leaving it aside for a while.
