Training after a general anaesthetic?

Has anyone ever done this, how long did it take to get back in training - or how long before training felt good again?.

Basically I had a general anaesthetic (two operations this week) and feel shattered all week.

Being a stupid, thick fook that I can be I went training this afternoon and thought I'd have to be carried from the gym, and that was with the lightest of workouts.

The info I got from the hospital said I shouldn't train for four weeks after the anaesthetic (the op's were relatively minor).. But I'm only back in training after a lenghty lay off and I dispair at waiting four weeks!.

    Anyone any experience of this?.

seriously how long have you been training, you know you are the only person who is going to know when you body is ready to train properly again.

edit: forced lay off's really are a pisser aren't they :D

Training about 25 yrs (weights and martial arts), but I've never trained after a general anaesthetic, and even without training I'm concerned at just how tired I am anyway.

    Alright mate,

training after a GA is always a bad idea. If the doctor said wait four weeks then definitely do. I've been under GA for some things and reacted in a similar fashion to you once, extreme tiredness for a few days afterwards.

It can affect people differently so the docs give a good time line to catch everyone. My advice would be give your Doc a shout and ask him about how you feel now....if not today then definitely do it by Monday if it persists.

Right now this thread is straying pretty close to medical advice to be honest!

why should we tell you when you already know yourself, but chances are you'll be back in the gym next week like the most of us dumbasses would, seeing if your body is ready to train.

Although not under GA I got my eyes done and was told to take 4 week off training, however I had been told by some one that they were back after one week lifting. However it took me around 8 weeks to actually train properly without getting major headaches as a result. This is why I was getting at the point of having trained for so long. You are used to listening to your body and will know when you will be able to go back

Had an operation last June, I'd have to check my exercise journal, but I'm fairly certain I didn't train till I had the stitches out. But on the bright side a rest never hurt anyone.
