hi, i have a question in relation to running shoes.

ive had a pair of asics trainers since january when i joined a gym.until now theyve been fine but in the last 3 visits to the gym, when im on the treadmill ive started to get shin splints after about 7-10 mins into my run and have had to stop because of the pain.its really frustrating and disheartening too.just wondering could this be down to the support in the trainers being "worn out", 3 months seems quite short.i had trainer before that lasted longer although i didnt weigh as much then.

EDIT: SORRY, i meant to put this in the fitness section, not fitness logs.

You may be running too far, too often. Give yourself at least week off and see if the problem continues.

You should also think about getting a gait analysis done. Any decent running shop can perform one of these for you, and can point out if you need particular runners with support on either the inside or outside of the sole.

If you think you are injured go to a professional and if you think you are just sore take it easy. Gait analysis/new shows/running on grass/stretching your calf/rolling a tennis ball along your shins/rubbing greyhound massage oil into your legs/eating raw eggs/running in the atlantic* may work and solve your problem but only if you are lucky.

*Have tried all of the above and infact I reckon may have add one of the first gait analysis in Ireland when Adidas launched their Torsion show about 20 years ago they had a gait analysis roadshow in selected sport shops. They all had short terms benefits but not the long-term solution of finding a great physio who can pinpoint and then remedy your imbalances

Maybe try a non-impact aerobic exercise for a week or two? Cycling maybe?

Gait analysis is definitely worth getting done too IMO. I was having trouble with my achilles with my last pair of runners. Went to that place in bray that I can't remember the name of and I haven't had any trouble since.

Remembered. Amphibian king. I drove from Skerries to Bray and it was worth the effort.
