The guy that does the sport on 2fm in the afternoon, James something is freakign me out. The way he reads the news just grates on me. Every word with a th in it he says as if it was just a t, ie month becomes mont. But he does words with just a t the opposite way around, with say date being dathe. It bugs the holy living crap out of me. Anyone else notice it?

    Anyhoo, rant over.:pac:

I think his name is James Short and god knows how he got a job reading the sports headlines. I thought i was the only one who noticed this. Absolutely does my head in. I change channel the minute i hear his voice.
Did someone seriously have him read a sample in an interview and then hire him. Maybe there were no t's or th's in the sample he read.

I thought I was the only one who noticed this as well! He's on every night on Radio 1 and has a serious problem with his th sounds. He also always ends his late night bulletins with "That's it for now, it's a very good morning!".

I think he means to say "That's it for now, a very good morning to you from the sports department".

    Sounds so strange.

Isn't it amazing what grates with people?

There's another sports guy on 2fm who speaks perfect but it's the way he says words with "ford" in them. I think most people (including me) would say Longfurd, Waterfurd etc. He says Long-foord, Water-foord etc. which is correct but it annoys the hell out of me.

I've noticed quite a few newscasters/weather readers/sportscasters that stutter their way through reading or pronounce words terribly etc. It's as if they just let anyone who turns up have a go at times. I would have thought a basic requirement of reading a news section was the ability to read and speak properly.

They seem to have major issues at times with sportspeoples names. A bit of reasearch would'nt go astray.

Thank God I'm the only person who this guy bugs. As soon as I hear him I turn the radio down or off. Seriously annoying.

Barry O'Neill. They most annoying sports newsreader on 2fm.

Slightly off topic but there's a guy on RTE Radio 1 who reads the news in Irish in the afternoon. I think his name is Seamus O'Scanluin. Well he reads like an express train and then loses his place resulting in him stuttering and ehmming until he gets back on track! It's desperate.

That's him alright. I had Larry on earlier and Barry was reading the sports. I now find myself listening to see if he says a word with "ford" in it. Then I go nuts and wifey can't understand why I leave it on!

    Mad I know.

worked with james 2 or 3 years ago and went for a pint with him one night and found him to be a nice guy and i think he does a good job for RTE especially at the racetrack...RTE need young blood for sports so please folks give him a chance...

Is he any relation to the Short fella who is RTE man in Washington, can't think of his first name at the min? Oh I got it, Robert Short.

Seriously the standard of diction and pronounciation at RTE and other stations is abysmal.

Mark Little,Miriam O'Callaghan seem to think "get" is pronounced "geh"

Some of us may slag PK but the guy speaks correctly.

Also the farm report guy Damien O'Reilly...serious problems with tenses,eg "went" instead of "gone" I have noticed several bloomers of the same kind from him, is there no-one out in RTE to take these people aside and put them right,or does nobody give a fcuk as long as the shills come in every month.

    Disgraceful!!

While we're kicking sports presenter types I'll mention the guy who does Newstalks saturday afternoon show. When he is rounding up the results at 5ish, he does my head on. Just awful stuff, speaking quickly rather than being clear and concise.

    Mike.

the worst thing I think is "sports presenters" mis pronouncing sports stars names and teams showing they know absolutely nothing about the the subject they are reporting on, and im talking about popular sport!

Dats weird, dat waterfooooard guy really pisses me off as well and even though theres only 2 counties in Ireland (me thinx!) with ford every time I listen he always manages to get them in.Maybe he's doing it on purpose, one would think being able to pronounce words/speak properly would be fairly important for radio!!
