My insurance renewal came just there,

Im 27 - Full licence - Full NCB (55% discount) - Protected NCB

    Insured on a 02 BMW m3 value 33,000

Quote is a pretty good 1,100 from eagle star.

Anyone with similar details paying any less? anyone i could call to get a comparative quote?

I went onto InsureMe.ie and I found Eagle Star quoted me nearly half what my renewal with Axa would have been. Worth checking out. I didnt buy from InsureMe, but when I rang Eagle Star they quoted me the same.

    +1 insure.ie

Not the best customer service, but there prices are hard to beat. A bit like Ryanair tbh.

I just tried this out. I had to put an excess of €2000 on the policy to even come close to the quote I got from Eagle Star, and my ES policy has a protected no claims bonus. Even at that the Ryanair quote was about €100 more expensive.

Most online quotes on an M3 are going to end fruitless, online quotes usually only cover generic run of the mill ordinary cars. I'd say your going to have to ring insurance companies for the best quote, play them off each other.

I've heard Britton Insurance and St Paul's specialise in insuring high performance cars. €1,100 doesn't sound too bad though.

The AA have been the best for me the last few years (current policy is underwritten by AIG). No online quotes, number on their website.

€1100 doesn't sound too bad for a twentysomething male in a M3 though.

Britton insurance arent actually that bad. They have a system whereby the more excess you are willing to put on the policy, the cheaper it gets. Not my cup of tea, but if you dont mind putting €1000-€2000 excess on your policy then you would probably get a very good quote.

FBD ftw as far as I'm concerned. Nobody could touch their quote for past two years (inc. no claims protection, windscreen cover, breakdown etc.). And perhaps most importantly, I recently had a parking incident that I needed to claim for and the process was unbelievably painless. Policy and licence no. over the phone, assessor came and had a look and the car was booked in two days later. Never even signed a form.

€540, 35yo, full NCB (still :D) on a '02 320Ci. Spoke to a mate who works there the other day about upgrading and he says an M3 will make little or no difference to my premium.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

    Summary so far

Eagle star thro broker, renewal 1,100 fully comp, full ncb protect
    FBD - wont quote
    Hibernian - system down
St Pauls - 1,250 best they can do (not incl full NCB protect)
    AA - cant quote me

ill try hibernian again, anyone else?

not looking good, that said the renewal is fine but always good to call around

something about it being the highest group car and they couldnt offer me a quote

ins co are funny like that, if you have been with them they will insure you on most things but if you are new business not so keen, regardless of ncb etc

oh and i asked eagle star was there any discount if i activated my tracker
answer - no unless car is worth over 100k :D

Is there a requirement that your existing insurer must offer you a policy renewal?

You wont beat Insure.ie or Aaran Ins in Harolds X brill for low quotes, just keep liying to each of them saying your getting a better quote with the other one, they will ALWAYS bring it down :D

Until my current classic insurance, I was with them for donkeys. By far the best quote for safe lads with performance cars :)

is that glennons or eagle star unkel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,323 ✭✭✭MarkN

    I'd say he meant Glennons.

I'm gonna try them for mine in Oct so, I'm paying 1500 quid at the moment and I think it's too much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,475 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

seems a lot alright mark, that said maybe the car value is a big contributory factor?

im happy enough with 900 !

Insurance is with Eagle Star indirectly. Frank Glennons is the broker I pay directly. Did I not advice you to go with this combo at some point?

Sorry Nismo, have to disagree with you and some of the others here. I'm amazed at how much insurance has come down over the last few years. I've been living in London for the past 18 months and am trying to get insurance at the moment, and its a painful process.

I'm 27, no points, no claims or convictions. Unfortunately no NCB either. Car is 2007 Z4M Coupe. As a laugh I checked for a quote back home in Dublin; €1100 (granted its XS Direct). Here my best so far is 3100. Sterling. M3 would be more again.

How things have turned...... Who would have thought Ireland could ever be cheap for something!

Rang Glennons this morning. Spoke to lovely Aussie girl :p

I dunno what the story is with my car - I think it is in a very high risk group, unfairly.

Best they could do is 1600 with that 4k excess place.

I've 2 points for breaking a "red" light, I've a female on the policy, I've maximum NCB and a full licence 7 years, no claims, convictions etc

I have the form at home for that advanced driving course that gets you another 30% off your premium, I think it's time to sign up.
