    Hi,

Just wondering, a few friends of mine are very talented musicians - and are wondering how to get opening slots in large venue's such as maybe the Point/ RDS for example.. anybody know how they would go about it?

    thanks

They'd really wanna make a name for themselves on a smaller scale first.

    Get in line boss! :D
In all seriousness though you really have to start making a name for yourself around town before the main promoters will even consider you for an opening slot in the big venues.
An odd time though you can strike it lucky.
Hybrasil got to play The Point, The Cork Operahouse and The Waterfront Belfast (best venue on the island) simply by the right person hearing God Bless The Devil on their myspace page.

Id suggest that before your mates even consider looking for slots with the main promoters its probably better to try to get for slots in places like Roisin Dubh, Cyprus Avenue, Whelans etc. supporting the bigger Irish bands doing the rounds.
Even this can be easier said than done though unless you have lots of contacts or your band is really **** hot.
Anyway thats just persons experience and the best of luck to your mates. :)

So, here's the next obstacle in their path - they are a hip hop act - now any suggestions? that does make things a bit harder...

Jayzus, wouldnt have the slightest idea about the hip hop end of things.
Iv had several friend requests from several Irish promoters on myspace though.
Alot of alt/indie club nights tend to put on a band as well as dj's and from what Iv seen on the hiphop promoters pages they do the same so it might be worth sniffing out those type of guys on myspace and Bebo for starters.
Dunno if thats any help at all to you. :)
