I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I don't have time to trawl thru all the threads sorry! basically I'm looking for a quick and easy, not too dark tan (just something to eliminate the paleness more than anything). I've got fake bake already before anyone suggests that, but it takes too long and is too messy. Maybe something like sun shimmer, but not as dark? something that goes on quick like a moisturiser basically, without the risk of streaking. thanks in advance! :)

sorry no advice unfortunately.. looking for some more..

How many days should I leave between:
    a) getting legs waxed to getting tan done ?
    b) getting tan done to occassion?

Was planning on getting waxed this Saturday, tan on Thursday and party's on Saturday, would that be ok?

    Never got tan done before..

i use the st tropez Everyday one...i find it brilliant...im very fair and only use it for occasions and then during the summer...its a tinted moisturisor one and goes on really good.not too bad smelling when drying and the colour comes up really natural...

but get the medium dark one ( i use this one) and you'll see results the following day..the fair medium takes a few days of application to even come up,even just a little, and its just a waste in my opinion...and the moisturisor itself its brilliant..leaves ya so soft..even if it wasnt fake tan id buy it for the moisturiser alone!!

Fake tanning can be tricky so it's as much about the prep as the product.
Exfoliate absolutely everywhere a couple of hours before you apply. Then DO NOT moisturise. It's a fallacy that you need to moisturise before you apply fake tan. Proper exfoliation should provide a perfect smoth base for the tan and adding moisturiser will just cause the tan to flake on your skin and become patchy, which can look really awful. A small amount of moisturiser applied only to drier areas eg. elbows, knees etc is sufficent. Then apply the tan to skin that isnt hot/warm (ie. just out of the shower) in light strokes without rubbing. Personally I find St Tropez mousse brilliant, very easy to apply and gives a natural non-orange colour. Johnson's Holiday Skin is great for a light every-day glow. As regards exfoliating L'Occitane do a really nice sugar scrub in the Verbena range. Hope this helps OP!

    Yes, sounds perfect.
I always thinktan looks best the day after you shower it off and you don't get any kind of smell then either.
I think you need to wait 48 hours after a wax or shave so that's more than enough time.

I would recommend Easy Bronze Lotion. This is a cheap and cheerful lotion, its white so you can see it going on. Its a little smelly for the first couple of hours, but it comes up a lovely golden colour, like u have been away for a few days in the sun, its definatly not too dark. If you put it on right, it looks great, i have often got good comments on it. I find it goes on well, but remember practice makes perfect.

I use Rimmell sexy legs, it comes in two shades and either wash off or wear off, i use the wash off and no joking it is absolutely fantastic and you can use it on your face if you dont want to use make-up. Never any streaks and if you have put it on unevenly you can simply wash a section off and redo, I love it.

Ya see that's what i don't get about people using instant tan..

my friend always uses it and we'll be in the bathroom and you hear "ahhh the water splashed onto my arm" and then she has all these blotchy marks. I used it once last year when I didn't realise i was going out and needed tan badly for what i was wearing but it always seemed to go on streaky, i thought that after using it when i was 14 or so that it'd stop that it'd be grand coz i'm able to put my normal tan on without streaking, but it didn't!!

dont know if this advice is too late but i use dove moisturising tan and it comes out good. if you put on a layer then an hour or 2 later put on another one youll have a light natural looking tan even if your going out that night or whatever.

2 words....Sally Hensen! Its brilliant. It goes on lovely - its a spray so you spray it on the mitt and go nuts. The beauty of it is (unlike Rimmel) is it doesnt wash off the minute some gob****e spills a drink down your arm but the next day an exfoliating glove washes it off instantly! Once I wore a dress and the rain was hop-hop-hopping off my legs and the tan didnt budge - next morning every bit of it washed right off in the shower! I use shade medium glow.
    Hope this helps...:D

    really is good stuff :D
except i think mayb put moisturiser on your hands just before you put it on because mine seemed to cake a tiny bit on my knuckles..?
didnt try the moisturiser though and maybe i just put it on wrong as was in a rush but still highly recommend sally hanson..
    and its not orange :D

Dove Summer Glow is my favourite, after many disaster trials I love this stuff, it's great!

I'm yet to find an Instant tan that I like though.

i second that the st tropez everyday is great. i'm very very pale too and got the medium dark colour and it comes up overnight into a nice natural looking tan
bought the st tropez lotion recently and it brought me out in a rash :(

i'd say i must have tried most fake tans at some stage (wayyy too easily influenced by their adverts :) ) but for the past year or so i've been using the boots brand 17 wear off spray tan. its not a misty spray its a proper liquid spray and is a dark tint so if you use a mitt you can see exactly what you're doing and it comes up nice and dark

i find with an awful lot of tans i've tried (including getting spray tans done) that it looks like its coming up nice and dark then i have a shower and i'm back to pasty white again but the boots 17 one doesn't seem to do the same

Unfortunately I was out of the country on Saturday so could only make an appointment for Wednesday (for waxing). Still getting tan on Thursday.. Not the happiest but will it be ok?? 24hrs between the two.

Sally Hansen is great. It is easy to apply (although be careful with towel etc!) and is not affected by rain. Try out a few different shades or even layer it with some bronzer powder. I am quite pale and I use either light or medium. It stays on the whole night and sometimes the next day I simply top it up slightly and it looks great.

by a cheap standard body scrub, E45 body cream, disposable gloves and st tropez bronzing mousse. Have a shower, use body scrub. dry yourself and moisturise with e45 cream (esp elbows and knees!). put on glooves. apply st tropez mousse and let it dry. top up each evening with st tropez everyday.

its that simple! and a bottles lasts ages. every other tan i tried either looked crap, rubbed off all over clothes or became patchy! the st tropez looks so good a friend assumed i got a tan on a recent holiday (i didnt, it rained)

id never pay for someone to do my tan for me its mad you would get yourself a bottle for the same price

use body scrub and moisturised 24 h before you plan on tanning as this will give your pores time to close properly. i use a vichy one it comes in a brown bottle and i love it think its brilliant. id give 48 hrs between a wax and a tan myself but i think 24hr would probably be ok too. i must try this st tropez everyday never heard of it.

I've recently started using the Piz Buin one, liking it alot!!

I was wondering if anyone knows where i can get Piz Buin fake tan. Ive tried most of clare and a fair few places in Limerick

i have used pretty much every type and brand of tan available in Ireland.. The two best i have ever used are:
St Tropez Everyday & Tantastic (comes in a bright pink bottle, available in most chemists.)

They are both really quick to put on, dry quickly, never any streaks and really natural tan. (No Tangoed look)

The best tan is Top Image tan, as far as i know its only available in Munster, well thats the last i've heard, but its really soooo good!!
its 25 euro and in most chemists. i use the liquid one, you just put it on the mitt and then apply, it doesn't streak and the best thing about it is it'll only come out really light after one coat so if you don't want to look too overdone, or you can just apply 2 or 3 coats if you want to be really tanned. its a gorgeous colour ;)and smells lovely.never lets me down. it comes out instantly too and unlike sunshimmer it doesnt come off if you get splashed!!

also one of my favourites is lancome flash bronzer, the leg gel i think it is but its not just for legs. gorgeous shimmering tan and easy to apply also :p

Was hoping for a bit of advice on fake tan application as I'm a fake tan virgin so to speak - thought this would be the best place!
I'm quite pale so I decided to try a gradual tanner so I didn't turn orange straight away - I bought St.Tropez Everyday Body. I've made one application so far, after a shower, exfoliation, moisturise etc. I found that the smell was not too bad, but unpleasant enough that I didn't want to go to work the next day without showering again. How long should leave after application of this product before getting a shower, to make sure the product doesn't rub off or become less effective?Would a wait of an hour or two be enough?
    I wouldn't have a clue!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,469 ✭✭✭Pythia

It's best to leave it on 6 - 8 hours. Most people I know put it on in the evening and then wash it off in the shower before work the next morning.

I don't think an hour or two is ok, although im not familiar with the one your using! It should say on the bottle how long you must leave it!
With any fake tans i have tried it's usually best to apply at night time before bed and wash off the next morning, that way your leaving it on as long as possible without having to wash your hands or something and when it starts to smell your asleep so you don't have to smell it!!!
What I used to do when I wore fake tan was wear a satin pjyamas inside out with another pyjamas over it! The satin was light on my skin and didnt rub off the tan and the other pyjamas kept the heat in! From my experience the warmer you are the better the tan develops!!

Thank for the quick replies - the only directions on the bottle were to leave it on for a few minuites until it sinks into your skin before getting dressed, but nothing about washing after. Will take your advice on board though, a pre work shower sounds like the safest way to go!

Lancome is the best. Costs €27 a bottle, goes on quick, and you can actually see it going on which is the best thing. The colour comes up about 8 hours afterwards. The smell isn't too bad, maybe best to get a quick shower before you go out to wherever it is you're going.

I put mine on a Thursday, had a shower everyday and the colour was still there on Tuesday. :)

A fool proof tan is Clarins Instant Gel. It says it's instant but it gets a little darker after a couple of hours. You can see it going on and it's more like a moisturiser at first and doesn't have a smell off it. Anytime I use it people ask have I been away, it's very natural.
