    the old man is wondering can you get setanta sports through a lidl satellite?

    unfortunately no,only free to view channells,itv's bbc,s to name but a few.

    Not even free to view will work on a lidl system. Only free to air will work.

    Free to View is NOT the same as Free to Air.

    Free To View is encrypted, but one can get a free card to decrypt (and view) it. These cards are not generally available here in Ireland.

    Free to Air is not encrypted and therefor no viewing cards are required.

    Yes. Setanta use the same encryption system as used by Sky, so you will need a Sky Digibox and pay the appropriate subscription fee for a viewing card.

    That's a DTT box, Digital Terrestrial Television. As such, it receives its signals from an aerial, and is no good for use with a satellite dish.

    There are few areas that it will work in, basically you need to be able to receive UK channels from a transmitter that carries DTT (Freeview), and have a good signal. Works for some in border counties and parts of Wexford (from Wales transmitters), etc.


    Aaanyway, the device is irrelevant in this thread. :)
