Sitjaipetch Muaythai Camp in Cork held a seminar with Dutch legend Ramon "The Diamond" Dekker last weekend. The seminar was a great success with people travelling from far and wide to attend. Although there may not have been a tonne of information/technique people had not seen before, the respect and admiration attendees had for the man was obvious, particularly in the enthusiasm of practise. The guys ability and power was there for all to see especially in his delivery of technique. He is a pretty quiet and patient guy but has a really good sense of humour. He gave us plenty of time during a question and answer session after the seminar and stayed on for ages afterwards signing stuff and letting people take photographs.

    A couple of interesting facts:

210 fights of which 180 were full Muaythai rules 5 X 3min rounds

He fought TWICE a week for approx 10 YEARS

Can't remember exactly how many wins but remember someone saying it was about 70%

    99 KO's.

I asked him who was his toughest opponent and he said all of the Thai's. He said everytime he beat one, they just seemed to open another can and get another one.

Fought Coban 4 times 2 wins, 2 losses including Coban KOing him in the first fight and then he KOed Coban.

Fought Orono twice, Santienai, the list goes on.

Just thought I'd include a clip from Youtube of one of my lads asking him about when he fought French fighter Dida Diafat and Jean Claude Van Damme was in his corner. This was Dekkers responce

This was picking at my brain. Recovery time from a full rules fight is usually a week....and then I did the sums.....twice a month for 10 years is about right. Twice a week would be too punishing, even for the legend that is Dekkers.

Signs by his ankle is fuvked and he's just recently had the last operation on it, in which they inserted pins so he's lost a lot of mobility in the joint. Says he can still kick and that was obvious but can't run. He doesn't mind that though cause he said he always hated running.

The lad that took the footage asked him about increasing the power in his left kick and Dekkers said just change legs, to which Eric asked but won't he know I'll then try to kick with that leg and block it with his shin and Diamond answered Ahh yea, you just kick him anyway!!!

That's animal. This may be why he's had so many operations on his shins. Really fits in with his fighting style mind you.
