    Help!
I'm ordering my wedding dress from thebridalshop.com (thanks to whoever put the link here!) but I was wondering if anyone knows the conversions of sizes?

I was a 16 when I tried the dress on here, but I have no idea what that would be in the states, and I don't want to end up with something of a random size!

Thanks for the help guys and gals!

In regular clothes you're a size smaller in US terms (an Irish 14 would be a US 12). However formal dresses aren't always the same. Maybe if you email the site with your measurements they can tell you for sure.

    You're actually two sizes smaller in the US, i.e. an Irish 10 is a US 6, Irish 8 is a 4, Irish 6 is a 2, etc.

Can't agree - when I lived there I was always 1 down from an Irish size. Formal dresses are a law unto themselves anyway, best to check with the site.

Yeah they always fall somewhere in the middle of 1 to 2 sizes.

To be honest I'd recommend going for your usual size in Irish sizes.

I'm a size 12 in all my clothes at the moment and my dress is a US size 12 (allegedly 14 - 16 Irish). It's still a bit on the tight side on me.

You can always get it taken in but it's difficult to get it let out.

I'm going to have to lose another half stone before I can get mine altered now because it's catching on my hips.

Offically US sizes are two sizes smaller. So if you're a 10 here, you're a 6 over there.

BUT! Wedding dress sizes seem to have a scale of their own. Have you tried on the dress, or do you know anywhere that sells them here?

I tried on a pile of dresses before i picked mine, im a 12-14, and the dress sizes dont seem to relate to the actual sizes at all, some 10 dresses were massive, and 16 dresses were far too tight. You are probably better off going to a dressmaker, and getting them to take your measurements and then sending them on to the wedding shop.

One way or the other you will need your dress altered, so its prob in your interest to make contact with a dressmaker

Yeah, tried it on here and I was a 16. A friend of mine used be a dressmaker and she said she'll adjust it if it needs it, so fingers crossed!
