The ever popular Vostro line has a couple of new models, including a 13.3". They're a little lighter and slimmer than the current line, but generally not quite as affordable.

The 1310 and 1510 are on the site now, a 1710 is planned for the near future.

Dell just pumped out a trio of Vostro laptops for small businesses. The new 13.3-inch Vostro 1310 (starting at $749), 15.4-inch Vostro 1510 (starting at $599), and redesigned 17-inch Vostra 1710 (price, undisclosed) all feature a slot loading optical drive and thinner / lighter designs. They also ship with 10GB of free online storage, Network Assistant and PC TuneUp -- all crapware free. The 1310 and 1510 are available today in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) then May 1st for the Americas. The 17-incher hits mid-May.

    They look...great...:p

Looking at my Vostro 1500 and comparing it to those pictures, mine looks way better... Very square & old fashioned looking things...

Its certainly different, so I can see how people would prefer one over the other.

To me, the new designs look great, they're lighter & slimmer, nice materials (magnesium alloy etc), slot loading drive. I think the look is very business like, similar to an IBM, and the hinges look solid and sturdy. Looks good, I can see the 13.3" being very popular for mobile users who don't want to shell out for the likes of the XPSM1330 (or a 13" macbook).

    I was looking at this

    Base:
    Intel Core2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1 GHz)
    Microsoft Operating System:
    Genuine Windows Vista™ Business
    LCD:
    13.3" Widescreen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with Anti-Glare Coating
    Colour Choice:
Glossy Black with 1.3 MP Camera
    Memory:
    2048MB (1x2048) 667MHz DDR2
    Hard Drive:
    320GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
    Video Card:
    128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS (64 bit)
    Optical Devices :
    Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive including Software 150040 [429-13055] 16
    Primary Battery:
Primary 4-cell 38 WHr Lithium Ion battery
    Wireless Networking :
    Intel® Pro Wireless 3945 (802.11 a/b/g)

    Would be about 800euro.

    I prefer a smaller laptop, dont like a 15.4".
So does this sound like a good deal or is there another lappy out there that might be as good or better for about the price? (max screen 14.1")

The Vostro 1400 is gone from Dell website ... maybe that's why it's taking 5 weeks for mine to come!!:D

The 13" looks very slick to me, granted it's perhaps "boxy" but i'd rather it be a little bit boxy but robust. Im liking the magnesium alloy construction, might be tempted by one a bit further on down the line, although....my eee kinda covers the umpc side of things...

The 1500 is gone 'End of Life' aswell. I ordered 5 of them 2 weeks ago and was wondering why I heard nothing. My account manager rang me about it on Monday. They're still comming but delayed.

The 1310 looks nice but this annoys me:
Warning! Please be advised that there currently is an extended delivery time.
The same thing happened when they launched the XPS1330.:(

I got mine on Thursday, so only took about 2 weeks after all! Vista is taking a little getting used to ... but happy days apart from that!:D

I've been dying for dell to bring out a cheaper end 13.3" laptop for a while now and this looks just what i was looking for. was toying with the idea of getting one of the 9" eee pcs or a similar size one but I reckon the extra specs with something like this make up for the added weight. Though obviousy the eee pc is great for travel etc.

That 13.3" is seriously nice for the price....just bought an eee-pc and will be selling my 1500, and I already want one of these...

Just with all this talk of Dell delays.......

Did you find that delivery still met the estimated delivery date?

Only my estimated date on the vostro I ordered exceeds the usual ten working days period, and I'm just wondering if that date allows for those delays, of whether I can expect it to arrive later than that?

    Ordered: 15/04/08

    Estimated Delivery Date: 01/05/08

    Cheers!

    I think my dates were:

    Order Date : 11-April-2008
    Estimated Delivery Date : 14-May-2008

    Actual Delivery Date : 23-April-2008
