    Christmas Feline

    Ten thousand flashing strobes
    sit upon a mortar whale,
    Observe a banker's paradise!
But look what lies beneath the lights,
On this God's birthday, Christmas night.

A stack of presents eight foot high
    dwarf a plastic tree.
    The fruits of polymer technology,
    transported from the east.
Hunter gatherer insticts still prevail in secrecy.

    But what sacrifice is made
    for this pile of mediocrity?

I wrote this poem after observing some big houses in my area with excessive numbers of fairylights. It got me thinking about how people were losing the true meaning of christmas. The title is a play on the phrase christmas feeling crossed with the celtic tiger.
