Does anybody know anything about this primary school that is going to open on the grounds of the phoenix park racecourse development ?

I don't think it has even started being built yet, so not sure what information I can get. Just thought I'd ask if anyone has heard anything about it or it's future plans - not much on google.

    thanks

It's a new VEC primary school. It's a whole new model made up by the Minister. Inter-denominational yet they've given the church pretty much veto power over the hiring of teachers. And the Minister also ignored all the rules for setting up a school that everyone else; churches, ET; have to follow. There's an article by Paul Rowe at http://www.educatetogether.ie/press_releases/pr080325.html

Just heard - apparently this school is not going to go ahead now. Not sure if the Educate together will go ahead instead ?

We have been informed that we now have the option of
    Scoil Grainne - Ongar or
    Scoil Choilm - Porterstown

I don't know anything about these schools - anybody know anything about these schools - presumably they have been built and are in existence.

    thanks

If its the proposed Carpenterstown ET school - the dept denied it permission to open and this decision is currently being challenged afaik - but wouldn't hold my breath

the two schools Scoil Grainne and Scoil Colm are the two other VEC primary schools

According to a report on RTE news just npw, the [outgoing] Minister for Education and Science has blamed a slowdown in apartment building in the vicinity of the area for the decision to postpone this school. Apparantly they had only 13 names for enrolment. The same report said local schools are thrilled as there really wasn't any need for another school - as the enrolment figures show.

the fact that there's only 13 names down might also just have something to do with the fact that the Former minister ignored all the rules in establishing this school - all others have prove that they have the enrolment figures (and predicted future enrolement) before they are even considered.

They only had 13 names because the local parents don't want it. The ET school has 260 pre-enrolments. ET have taken legal advice and are seeking a judicial review of the Minister's decision. With it now being suspended I'd say they have a great chance of winning.

Anyone have a link to the story? It's the first I've heard of it.

don't have a link buts it in Irish Times today page 3.
wonder if Hanafin's solo run on this type of school - even though there was no real impetus for this model (only 57 for one and 86 registered in the other two remaining schools of this model) and the fact that she totally disregarded the rules HER dept for forming schools for these ones and appointed a principal for scoil Osin who now has to be redeployed etc that helped with her demotion in cabinet. Not to mention her complete inability to deliver on reduction of class sizes during the most prosperous time we've ever had (claiming they were putting teachers into EAL and resource instead - where was the either /or choice in their manifesto).
Think education is in for an even bumpier ride for the next while - def no reduction in pupil teacher ratio this year and from what I've seen in our school this year it's getting much much harder to get SNA's appointed to kids who need them.

I think Ms Hanifin's demotion was due to a combination of factors but the class size issue has to be near the top. Batt O' Keeffe will have a tough job now there's no doubt about that.

Looks like the current minister is prepared to follow the agenda of his predecessor with this model of school patronage by the VEC. Interesting comment from the local Catholic church P.P. regarding the project....
