Advice on mascara

    Hi everyone,
Like most girls I suppose I've spent a small fortune trying to find the right mascara. I was looking thorugh my make up bag last night and pulled out about 10 different mascaras that I have used only once but they haven't been good so never used again.

Anyone have any recommendations for a mascara that lengthens the lashes and makes them look a lot fuller. Doesn't really matter about the price now at this stage !

    Any advice appreciated :)

Too Faced lash injection all the way, it's about €18.50, Debenhams and House of Fraser are two places I know of who stock it.. Stuff is unreal, I love it :D

There are soooooo many types of mascara , firstly decide what type you need... lenghtening, thickening , volumising, waterproof etc . There are different looks with mascara to ... should not be to heavy during the day and when your going out lashing of mascara usualy does the trick... but here's the thing firstly use an eyelash curlers for 15-20seconds on your lash sometimes use a little pump action with the curlers but not to hard that it would damage the lash... after this is done take your chosen mascara and work form root to tip wiggling along the way ... best to apply it in the direction of the hairs. Example outer lashes at the cornor apply outwards and the little inny ones near the tear duct kinda use the end of the wand and apply in their direction. use an eyelash seperator if they get clumpy. another tip... Never pump your mascara wand into the product as it causes it to dry up the product and throw away mascara after 6 mts. it only get clumpy and if you ever get any kind of eye infection (conjunctivits) throw mascara away as it can habour bacteria.

Diorshow is amazing, it gives a false lash effect without it looking too false. Before using it I would often forget or be in too much of a rush to put on mascara, now I feel naked without it!! About €26 but lasts for ages. Oh, and it's like a conditioner for your lashes also!

I use a layer underneath my mascara, a white 'undercoat'. Makes them bigger. It's by Lancome and called 'Cils Booster XL'. I then use Loreal Lash Architect over it, generally two coats.
Diorshow is also very good although I think I prefer Lash Architect.

I think I must have tried ever mascara in the world and Loreal double extension is the best.

+1 for diorshow and benefit bad gal lash is really good aswell. it's about €22 and you can get it wherever stocks benefit.

Max Factor Masterpiece (the original version). It's the absolute best I've ever tried. I have really fine eyelashes and most mascara wands put out too much, meaning that I used to wipe the wands on tissue to remove most of the mascara before application.

The Masterpiece wand is genious. Plus, it really does thicken and lengthen lashes.

I'm not a big fan of the waterproof or max versions as they are too much. The original version is just perfect.

The Benefit mascara is just terrible - worse than the cheap stuff I used as a teenager.

Is this the max factor mascara in the gold tube ?

Thanks for all the advice so far everyone :)

I think YSL's Faux Cils is brilliant, it really lengthens the lashes and doesn't clump or flake at all. Any of the Bourjois mascaras that I've tried are good too esp for the price.

YSL Faux Cils Effet is the most amazing mascara ever! People always ask if I have fake eyelashes , it doesn't clump but lengthens and thickens. Don't use the YSL waterproof mascara though, it's not half as good. YSL Faux Cils Effet comes in lots of different colours too so the burgundy or purple are gorgeous for a night out.

+2 for the Dior Show Unlimited. I've tried many many mascaras and they've either clumped, flaked, made my eyes sting etc etc etc. Dior are the best by far. I use it in conjuction with an eye lash primer from Clinique. You apply the primer and wait a minute or two before then applying your mascara. The results are fantastic, almost as good as wearing false lashes without the hassle of applying them etc.

the new rimmel one is good too

Yeah the original Max Factor Masterpiece (gold tube) is pretty good, I used it for a while. 'Dudura' is right about the waterproof and max versions though, they're just too heavy and ended up clumping!

However, last year I tried the Benefit Bad Gal mascara and I LOVE it! :D I've never been so impressed with a mascara before. The wand bristles are quite full and thick though, so I think you'd need some decent eyelashes to start with? A friend of mine has very thin sparse eyelashes and the Benefit one was too much for her.

OP, let us know which ones you try :D

    Blinc mascara ftw!!! http://www.ciao.co.uk/Blinc_Kiss_Me_Mascara__5319354
It never smudges or runs. Ya peel it off at night! It kinda is like the mascara wraps itself around your lashes. I find it brill. It makes my non exisitant eyelashes look full and long. I love it only discovered it through a sample I got.

+1 for the YSL faux cils :)
Defo the best mascara out there!
Clarins do a good one as well, think its called wonder volume or something...
If you go for the YSL, you should buy it from strawberrynet.com, it'll save you a few bob from the price in the shops (which is about €25)

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the ideas so far!, keep them coming!

So far I have tried two of your suggestions - the Loreal Double Extension and the Max Factor Masterpiece. Loved them both, they both are great for giving length!! Still willing to try a few more!!!

Going to buy the YSL faux cils on Monday in BT's as I have a voucher, went in yesterday to buy it, went looking around at all the handbags and walked out without it by mistake!!!!

I got Bourjois Volume Clubbing mascara, and find its brilliant. Its really stubborn too, won't come off in a rush!!

I have a burgundy Faux Cils. It's good, but not as good as the Masterpiece.

I think a lot of it depends on your lashes, and how thin/thick they are naturally.

I like the look of this, anyone else use this and where did you buy it? (Mascara really irritates my eyes)

I found that all mascara that uses two layers really clumps up the lashes. The same for those brushes that look like a comb.

I've tried various Lancome ones because I've read numerous times in mags that it's supposed to be really fab, but I ended up with smudges underneath the eyes every single time. Hate a messy look!

The masterpiece from Maxfactor is cool, but I find it a bit runny too.

At the moment I use the green and pink one from Maybelline and apply it about 3 times. Love the look. Also, if you use a lash curler lashes always look long and glam. I got a black one from Jemma Kid that I bought in Boots which I love.

    Have fun!

Mac's mascaras would generally be considered their worst product. I'd stay away from them.

Max Factor. Having tried practically every one on the market, this is the best IMO.

Having tried a gizillion mascaras, everything from cheap 'n cheerful to blow the bank balance I FINALLY found the product my lashes have been lusting... Chanel! It's pricey at €29.00 but it goes on so well & defines every single lash in no time. It stays on your lashes so no mid afternoon panda eyes & it comes off easily with cleanser. Beware as it may just be the catalyst of everything in your make-up bag just having to be Chanel. Good luck!

I find that the less mascara i use the better my lashes look, thats why i get my eyelashes tinted to give them a defining colour and i use the eyelash curlers for a nice shape then seal it all with a coat of mascara (at the min its maxfactor)

think i might splash out on the dior mascara tomorrow. got a set of the eyeshadows and they are gorgeous! my poor poor wallet!

Not sure if i should start a different thread for this or not..

Can anyone recommend a good mascara for contacts wearers? I've used Rimmel Volume Extend for ages but getting a bit tired of it and find it a bit heavy for day wear..It is actually really good if anyones looking to try a new mascara - its €10 in Boots, I always get loads of compliments on it, just looking for a change at d mo!

My eyes seem to be more sensitive lately and some new mascaras i've tried really irritate my eyes when I'm removing it e.g. Rimmel Glam Eyes, Rimmel Lash Maxxx and a few others (not just Rimmel!)

My eyelashes are long and fine so need a volumising one for day wear thats ok for sensitive eyes..

    Mission impossible?!

Ps - dying to try Benefit Bad Gal as I've heard so much about it, is it really that good and have any contact wearers tried it? Thanks!

La Roche Posay do a range of mascaras for sensitive eyes. You can find them in most chemists.

I have contacts and Bad Gal didn't work at all, it went all over the place. I think it's too fibrous.

I have heard that Max Factor masterpiece is good for contact lens wearers altough it is not stated on the packaging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,150 ✭✭✭✭Malari

I'm a contact-wearer and I use Max Factor Masterpiece usually with no problems. I find Estee Lauder's Lash XL good too. I think it's more day-wear though, not as dramatic. I have the curse blond eyelashes so prefer to use something everyday so they can be seen at all! :)

Would the Diorshow or the YSL Faux Cils be volumnising? Wear glasses so cant wear mascara that really lengthens or else my eyelashes knock against the glasses (very annoying!) but would be more into volume.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 753 ✭✭✭Font22

i just bought the Diorshow mascara and also wear glasses and have found it brill! i'd say its more volumising then lengthening!

This just caught my eye and I thought I would post here.. I loved this foundation too, the finish was great. However it turns out that it was a catylist for acne breakouts.. the really bad kind. So if you're an acne sufferer or prone to breakouts i would reccomend to stay away from it. Found out after doing some reasearch that one of the main ingredients is wax so that must have something to do with it! Really didnt want to believe it as I thought it would be great becuase it is a quality, trusted make- kept going back to it and got very bad acne flare ups every time!

As for mascara, benefit bad gal lash is one of the best I have come across. I think it works best if your lashes are already long-ish.. what it does is it fills them out. :)

    hello!

i love love love Dior show and but lately and recommended by a friend by a friend loreal telescope.... it's awesome and cheap.

so i'd say loreal telescope as i'm all bananas about it at the moment.... it's fab! thickening and lengthening all at once no gross clumps!

i'm dying to try the new guerlian mascara though! (it's so long)

    xxxxx

For all of you that like Avon I recently tried their SuperFull mascara which I found gave me extra lashes and good length also and at a reasonable price too !!

    Just another recommendation!!

i just bought benifits bad gal mascara, haven't used it yet, any good?

For anyone interested in the 'blinc kiss me' type mascara's, l'oreal just came out with one!! Same tube technology as blinc, waterproof, smudgeproof, remove with warm water and pressure. Its 12euro down from 15 at the mo and I find it great! Much more volume and length than the blinc with its primer (which I found crap and would have cost 60euro for both btw!!!) I could only find this in a chemist on Henry st in dub though.
