Bloody 3 Woods!!

I need a new 3 wood and I have to say, I've traditionally found that a good 3 wood is probably the hardest thing to come by in golf equipment.

I currently have a Titleist 975F, 14.5 degree with a dynamic gold x100 shaft. It's quite frankly a piece of garbage.

I used to hit it fine but given my 3 year break from golf and now obviously not swinging at the same standard I could probably kick the ball further, and with a better flight for that matter.

Can anyone recommend something that's not too low profile with a decent shaft.

I've just gotten a new handicap of 9 - previously was 3. I'm very tall and the right shaft are is very important to me. Currently using a G10 driver with grafalloy prolaunch if that helps.

I'm not as up on my gear as I once was - bought the G10 largely on feedback from this forum.

    All advice appreciated!

I have a new TaylorMade Burner TP version 3 wood with a graffaloy blue shaft and I have to say it really is impressive. The face is pretty shallow though so may not be what you are after.
I like the shallow face as I feel I can 'sweep' the ball off the deck easier with it - my swing tended to be too steep into the ball... I previously had a ping g5 and it was a pretty good club but not in the same league IMO.
The TP version face looks great to my eye, it sits very square. I was custom fit for the shaft to get the ball airborne easier because my flight tended to be low.
Wasn't overly expensive either, forget exactly but €230ish territory including the custom shaft (tipped to make it a little stiffer)

    Cheers Licksy,

Yeah a mate in work has one. Must get a hit of it off him.

There's a new Titleist one in our pro shop that's 15.5 degree that seems to sit nice. The price was apparently 160ish too which sounded cheap.

you could try getting your current 3 wood reshafted with a S300, much easier to hit than the X100.
Othewise some of the new ping fairway woods look very nice.
I have a titleist 904F with NV85 S shaft and find it a great club too

Na, all my shafts are the same bar the driver. I was custom fit by computer with Brendan McDaid in Rathsallagh.

The new titleist does look nice. how much do they retail for?

I got the G10 3-wood to match my driver and it's great. Always nice to have matching woods i feel.

Had a Titleist for years, but the same as you, when i returned to the game after a few years away, i couldn't hit the thing for love nor money. Sold it and bought a Callaway X. It was deadly off the tee, in fact i hardly ever missed a fairway. Trouble was, i couldn't hit it for the life of me off the fairway. Used to actually duff it!

Alot better with the G10 though. I agree with Licksy though, the Burner is also really nice.

I was picking up some irons at the weekend and a few of the shop guys were raving about the new callaway squareway, would like to try it out to see what the fuss was about but they were 329! crazy price for a 3 wood imo.

I have the same issue as a few have mentioned, all the 3 woods I have had were better on the tee or the fairway. Taylormade 200 series was great from fairway, not so good from tee, callaway steelhead III, amazing from tee but not so good from fairway. Currently using an x-tour which is great from fairway but not so good from tee, but seldom use 3 wood from tee anymore, it is usually driver or else 4 iron for me now. Very seldom come across anything in the middle except long par 3s into wind which are usually the rescue club.

Steel shaft about €200, graphite €250....I think
