What type of TV are you using. I have the exact same problem but only on my Samsung LCD. I got NTL who were kind enough to tell me to fix the problem I'd be better off getting Sky HD.

I have an LG LCD tv, like i get a very grainy picture but all the rest of the channels show up well except the three channels I mentioned. Sometimes discovery is so bad you cant watch it at all

I had this problem a few years back, in particular, channel 4 and called them. Turns out it was a connection issue somewhere along the line and they repaired it free of charge. Maybe things have changed now, and if you're happy that the TV is locked into the correct frequency for the channels, then NTL will need to investigate the fact there's something wrong with their service.

Service calls are free of charge, always have been. Common enough problem, shouldn't be hard to get sorted.

That's because those NTL people who call to your house are not actually NTL people. They are independent contractors.

this has been discussed here before. Those channels are on VHF Band 1 where you are - and a lot of modern TVs perform poorly on Band 1 due to interference generated within the TV itself.
Using shielded wallsockets (if you currently have unshielded ones) and good quality (CT100 type) cable may improve matters

I had similar issues with RTE1 RTE2 UTV, had NTL out who checked both the connection and the dist amp out under the manhole cover, reckoned it was an issue with some head amp up for the road, they said they would sort it out with 4-5 weeks but it took them 9 months to actually fix it :(
