INSTITUTE OF VIDEOGRAPHY EXHIBIT AT PHOTO FEST IRELAND

"Moving to the moving image" - IOV takes part in Photo Fest Ireland 2008

The industries of photography and videography can sometimes seem like worlds apart – despite the fact that many professionals operate in both disciplines and sell to exactly the same clients. The barriers are slowly lifting and the differences in technology and techniques are becoming less and less. These, and other industries, are fast moving towards one unified group of media professionals who deal with images – whether moving or still.

In recent years the IOV (Institute of Videography) has seen changes within its own membership. Many of those practicing videography today have come from a photographic, design or broadcast production background – and continue to work within those markets which compliment videography so well. The clients, techniques, opportunities and client-base are often exactly the same. They often face the same challenges presented by digital distribution, rights management and the merging of digital technologies.

The IOV is responding to these changes by reaching out to associated trades and offering membership to those with a growing involvement in videography. Many of the benefits of membership of the IOV are not solely videography-based - and will find appeal amongst anyone operating a media-based business. I haven't been to Photofest before but I know at Focus they were selling gear very competively but not as competively as HK

Did anyone else go, I made a flying visit just before lunchtime and had a quick scoot around the stands, didn't see any familiar faces there.

The whole thing was a bit cramped I thought but some interesting stands, apart from the gear there was plenty of ideas to be had on presenting my work.

I had a chat with the guy selling the 3D system, some of the larger prints I thought looked quite well, I don't know how well it will catch on with a price of €10,000 though.

I mentioned to one of the guys on the Olympus stand that I thought they would have had more of their lenses on display, he told me that Ryanair had left his case in Bristol, it had a 90-250 f2.8 in it, along with a few more.

Yeah went for an hour before lunch,was pretty cramped alright. Got my 450D on order for 600euro inc postage,not bad. That bond girl at the canon stand was pretty sweet looking.:D

I went for a few hours.. walked around plenty, picked up some leaflets, talked a bit, bought some paper, looked at tripods and headed home. Wasn't impressed with Bond Girl..................

Does anyone know what Bond Film she was supposed to have been in??!
The event was ok, went to two of the seminars by Guy on Photoshop and workflow....actually enjoyed them and thought they were useful; unfortunately his DVDs cost €60 each :eek:
Wish I had gone with loads to spend as was sorely tempted by the Wacom Graphics Tablets!!; does anyone know if anyone in Dublin who stocks them???

There were some good things there but I thought it was a little limited in terms of stall variation and the €10 was only really justified by going to at least 1 seminar....

If you took the opertunity to attend the talks upstairs, it was amazing value. The stands were fine, and the suppliers were very good about sharing info and being able to see the stuff.

I'd certainly be going back.

yes, please, a 2 day event
it's not enough for 1 day
4 seminars going on at any given time makes you wish you could go to more than one
I went to all guy's seminars except for the early nikon one
I'd like to go to the other ones too and to be able to spend more time downstairs
