Taking a Blackberry off Private Number

    Hi all,

My Dad got a Blackberry 8310 Curve, all working perfectly except his number is on private when he uses the Blackberry.

I've gone into the settings and "Restrict my number" is set to Never. I've changed it to always aswell but it's still private.

When I insert his SIM into another phone his number is no longer on private so it doesn't appear to be an operator issue.

Does anyone know the code to take your phone off private - isn't it *46# or something like that...or anyone have any other ideas?

    Go to the phone screen
    Press Blackberry button for menu
    Choose Options
    Choose General Options
Under "Restrict My Identity", change to Off

    ************IMPORTANT***********
Use the "back key" and you will see a message saying changes made
You can choose Save, Discard or Cancel
    Click on Save

    Now try it

You could try a hard reset (you'll lose all your settings and data). This will set the device back to factory settings etc like when you took it out of the box.

Sex a security keylock on it. Then enter the wrong one ten times. It will reset the device.

If that doesn't work send it for repair / bring back to the shop you got it from.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but did anybody have any luck getting this sorted?

I'm having the same issue with a Pearl and I'd rather not have to reset the device.

I had a similar problem with a SE phone on Vodafone.

I contacted vodafone and they were able to change the setting from their end.

Might be worth a shot as i think its a network setting rather than a phone setting anyway.

Yip cheers, got off the phone to Vodafone about half an hour ago and they sorted it. It's a network setting that applies to some new users.

funny thing is i cant seem to change it myself on my phone anymore.

bit annoying specially when im making work calls to clients that i dont want to give my personal mobile number to.

cant be expected to ring Vodafone every time
