Time for the old "Would you kill an animal yourself" chestnut. If there were no abattoirs or butchers and you had to produce your own meat i.e. find an animal, feed it and then slaughter it, would you? Or would you consider joining the vegetarians?

Now most of you lot are fat and lazy yet you really really love your meat. So which of your instincts would win out do you reckon?

Kill the animal and eat it raw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,407 ✭✭✭✭justsomebloke

yes I would, I think as a meat eater I have to take the responsibility for my action of choosing to eat meat and should there for be able to kill the animal if needed.

If I couldn't then I think I would have to become a veggie

Used to work in an abattoir. So no problem at all. Have killed a chicken before as well. Just think about how delicious it tastes...

Depends ... bare hands, or can I bring a big stick like a hurley, or maybe a knife ?

The more I think about it, if it was a cow, I could probably choke it out ... and if it was something smaller, like a pig or chicken, I could probably just sit on it.

Short answer is yes. I could, I have, and I would do so again.

In the interest of fairness, if the cow, pig or chicken win against me ... I have no problem with them eating my dead body. Fair's fair.

Surely a clever brother could set a trap, go away, rest up and come back to see the fruits of his labour later on.

No fuss, minimum effort, maximum results:cool:

Have killed before and would do it again. (animals that is, honest!) I was in the army for 12 years so had to find our own food sometimes. You can only eat so much chicken soup from your rations  In fact before I left the UK my ex g/f son was in the cadets, he brought home some ration packs from when he went on camp.

It was actually pretty good, not like the stuff we had, everything tasted like chicken  (so does human flesh I'm told!!!)

Apparently human flesh tastes more like pork.

Some parts though smell like fish, but in fact taste like chiken. ;)

I'd send the wimmins out to catch the food for me. Abbatoir or not, they're not gonna get off lightly

What if all the vegetables in the world suddenly died? Would you be tempted to have a nibble on DesF's cocktail sausage?

Then I would celebrate, I only like carrots, peas, parsnips, and sweetcorn! But at least we don't have to skin, gut, and cut them up.......Arrgghhhh......I'm turning into SaladBoy

    2lb burger please, stat! :pac::pac::pac::pac:

It's not quite that reason for me. I have no problem with killing an animal or a person if I want to, i just don't want to at the moment.

I would become a veggie. Not because I'm squimish but purely because I'm very lazy. All that aforementioned sounds like a lot of effort and I for one don't feel like going to the bother after a hard days work.

It's the same reason I don't eat oranges. It's just too much effort vs reward.

I have never sought and killed my meat but I have had the pleasure of standing in our kitchen as a kid watching my father skin a rabbit and make a stew out of the poor little thing, but I must admit it was fantastically delicious!!!

My old man also used to work in a local Horse Abbatoir. I was there for the viewing of many a horse that got slaughtered. Bullet to the head. Throat slit. body skinned. Then gutted. I enjoyed everybit of it. My sisters got the job of emptying the horseys insides onto the conveyor belt which I was utterly jealous of, but I did get to hose all the blood down the drains.

So basically what I'm trying to say is YES. . I was kill then snack.

i wouldn't, simply because i haven't a clue how to and would probably mess it up

butchering lessons would be in order should a crisis like that occur.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I'd do anything to avoid eating veggies so murder it is.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

If all the butchers and abattoirs closed or didn't exist, then I would set up a chain of slaughtering shops to fill the gap and make loads of monies.

That sounds like it keeps you very busy indeed.

Have you ever found time to masturbate?

I would eat the Animal then kill it.

    or
If I had developed a liking for the walking piece of Rasher I would swap Animals with a friend before I have to kill my own so then I dont have to kill my own one myself. I would kill my friends and eat it.

I do it quite often. Nothing like some freshly shot duck or a nice piece of venison.

Well if there was no butchers, I'd probably open up a butchers and corner the market. We'd be the microsoft of the meat products market, it'd make a killing.*

    *pun intended.

What about if all the farm animals and deers and ducks etc were all wiped out by an airborne virus which left dogs and cats as the only animals left. Would you still be a meat eater?

I've no idea how you'd go about slaughtering an animal but if somebody wanted to show me I'd be willing to learn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,081 ✭✭✭sheesh

Killed fish (put your finger in their mouth snap the neck dead instantly no pain) gutted fish no problem. the thing is when they are alive they are really colourful and a joy of nature, once dead they start looking like something that would go great fried in batter with chips, or just fried in a pan with butter.

in fairness processing a large animal like a cow would be awful the first time but baby if it was my only route to hamburgers and spag bol (the food of kings) I guarantee you that bovine is going down.

So yeah I'd kill it gut it hang it somewhere cool to tenderise it.

Well if there were no butchers etc. then I'd have to assume that it would be considered the norm to kill and prepare your on food so I think the real question is not would kill and prepare your own meat it's would you kill and prepare other peoples meat for payment.

Give the wimmin a spear and a net, have her catch it and kill it.
Have her cook it too, or did I have to mention that?
