Did anyone hear how pissed off Peter Aliss was getting in the closing stages of the masters tonight?

He was constantly complaining how long it was taking to finish the round of golf. He kept saying how they need to speed up the game at professional level

and when Trevor Immelman hit the approaching shot towards the 18th green and the spectator shouted the usual "Get in the hole!!". Peter could be clearly heard saying "shut up!"

To be honest I think he is a very good commentator and I've nothing against him being cranky and wanting to get home.

It just struck as being odd

I'll second him on the "get in the hole" response.

I don't think he complained that much. He kept asking his co-commentators which club they would use for some shot's. Surely he would know what club to use.

    I agree with Aliss.

A normal 2-ball should play 18 holes in approx 4 hours (and that's allowing for it being a major event - a club 2 ball should take 3.5 hours or less esp when the entire field is made up of 2 balls.)

Taking over 5 hours for 18 holes IS crazy - these guys set an example and they should be pulled up on it.

But it won't ever happen. Officials rarely ever penalise anyone who is in contention for slow play.

Funny that Alliss had such an issue with it at Augusta.
Commentaters dont usually go out on a limb and start criticizing anything in the hallowed environs of Augusta. Slow play is an issue that has become a topic of conversation over the last few months. People like O'Hair and Ben Crane have been taking the piss with their so called preparation and shot routine but this was not the case over the Sunday play at the Masters.
If you looked back over the coverage there was no 2 ball that was not in its expected position all day. For example, on the 11th hole when Tiger got his raker birdie putt, the 2 ball of Casey and Flesch were on the fairway waiting to play into the green and the final 2 ball of Snedeker and Immelman were on the tee waiting to drive!
Its the final day of a Major and you are coming into the most famous 9 holes in the world. I think they are entitled to take a little longer to take their respective shots. There was not even the hint of complaint from any of the players or officials so I think slow play was not an issue in this instance..

I agree, they should speed it up a bit.
I think he was pissed off because he was bored and was running out of things to say as the final round was extremely boring and an anticlimax.
At one point I heard him say "emm something to talk about now" or to that effect.

He was probably asking about clubs/yardage, as back when Aliss was a serious pro, there weren't many people hitting 8 iron 170-180yards, like Tigger, Casey and a dozen other hit on 16.

To say that all the groups were in position cos two groups were waiting on the same hole as Tiger is nonsense, just points to the fact that Tigger is generally one of the slower players, but who's going to put him on the clock?

    Tournament play is woefully slow.
Yes, they're playing for a lot of money, but until players are penalised shots for slow play nothing is going to be done about it
