I am changing my domain name from X.ie to Y.com

The X.ie site does well in the google rankings.

Any suggestions on what I should do to get Y.com to piggyback on the X.ie results and history ?

Use mod_rewrite (or similar) to do a 301 redirect from olddomain > newdomain

If it's a straight domain name move, then 301 is the only way to inform SE's that the content has permanently move.

If there's any directory structure changes, it may take additional time for this to be reflected.

Make sure you've got Googles web master tools set-up for the new domain, and keep on eye on any crawl/server errors after the switch
