I understand how the bonus marks system operates for answering some subject papers through the medium of Irish.

However, does anyone know if the bonus marks scheme exists on a statutory basis or is it a convention/tradition ?

Statutory surely, sure if you're good enough to think about giving up the bonus, then you don't get it anyway!:D
