So we moved back into our house in November and my mam thought the bathroom was to dark, so last Thursday they went to fit another light. My mam was told by the bulider than the electrician would be out doing it, and well he wasn't instead the foreman done it. He hadn't a clue how, was ringing up the electrician asking what to do, it was already wired and as far as I know all the foreman had to do is put the light fitting onto the wires. Is that techinally illegal?

well technically it is uncertified work as it has not been tested, and you could ask that the work was tested by the original electricians to keep you mind at ease, it's is very possible that the electrician has planned a visit to check it over anyway.

Wouldn't be overly concerned about light fittings, sure you could have even done that yourself really. Its more or less the same as wiring up a plug. If the light switches on and your house doesn't blow up your in pretty good shape...

If its paid work however I would ensure that an electrician certifies that its safe otherwise you don't have a comeback should anything go wrong...

I'd ask the spark to have a look in passing :)
