    Hi,
Wife to be is thinking of hiring a pre reception act for our guests. A welcome reception so to speak. Have any of u any views on this or is it just another way of screwin' money outta us?

Do you mean after the church when people are arriving at the hotel?
Suppose it depends on what you are thinking of and how much it'll set you back. We're getting married in Spain so going to have a Spanish guitarist when people arrive and for the drinks reception before dinner. It costs about 200 eur so not too bad and wanted to do something to add a bit of Spanish touch to the day!

It can be a really classy touch as long as you avoid jugglers or mime artistes.

i wouldn't bother if I were you, all your friends will want to drink, talk and have the craic when you get back form the church.
Save the money for a BBQ for the day after, you will enjoy it better.

+1 for this idea. I went to my first irish wedding last year and they had a folk type band. But really all people wanted to do was catch up on things, discuss the service/outfits/beer prices etc! or out for a smoke. :pac:

+2, my cousin did this for her wedding last summer, and it was actually kind of annoying cos we were all trying to have a chat and catch up with friends and family that we don't see regularly but it was really hard to hear them with the band in the background. Quite a lot of us actually ended up going outside and sitting in the beer garden area for a chat, even though they had an area for us inside the hotel.
