This should be a bit of fun, anyone hear any rumours of players moving clubs? Heard recently Fionn Carr (Blackrock fullback) is heading to Connacht and Damien Browne might be coming back from Northampton to Connacht aswell.

    Anyone else?

They also want Ben Atiga. Ospreys are really turning into a pension fund for out of work All Blacks

Is Freddie Michalak due back from Natal this year or next, heard it was only a year "loan".

Olly Barkley is off to Gloucester as well, thats confirmed I think.

It's not a loan but he says he wants to play in next years 6 nations and realises he has to return to Europe. Apparently he's already considering a number of offers from French and English clubs.

Meanwhile, Leinster -- 21-12 winners over Munster in the Magners League last night -- are understood to be pursuing tighthead CJ van der Linde as a replacement for Ollie le Roux, who returns to South Africa at the end of this season. Van der Linde (27), who plays with the Cheetahs, was a central part of South Africa's RWC success.

Think I remeber the South African RFU did away with that policy last year so it shouldn't be an issue.

Leinster are definitely actively persuing Van der Linde, and apparently Le Roux is going to put in a good word.

I think Carr to Connacht is a good move, the guy has a lot of talent but there's just too many backs at Leinster currently.

there is defo a space for carr at leinster next year... he has leapfrogged ross mccarron and is already ahead of felix jones. Jones and omalley need to go to connaught next year.

If carr stays he will play in the international windows for sure... Remember that leinster still need to cover themselves with decent options for these games - fitzo, kearney, bod, darce and sexton will all potentially be missing during international squad meetings and breaks during the season.

Jones was played more recently in the Connacht game even though Carr was available and O'Malley has been on the bench of late (though admittedly as a centre replacement). The international window will be smaller next year too, the IRFU have said internationals will only be missing for two or so games, so that will limit the younger players chances.

the week jones was picked ahead of carr was due to a niggling injury...

anyway - says in the paper today he might be heading to leiceter

Hernandez to Leicester looks pretty certain now. Looks like Andy Goode is going to be second string there.

I don't think thats a good move for anyone. Goode has had a great season IMO, plus I just get the feeling that Hernandez is better off at a club like Stade. Can't see him fitting in with the ethos or gameplan at Leicster. At the same time, obviously a massive talent though.

Yeah but you also have crazy competition at OH at Stade with Skrela and Beauxis.

Cj van der Linde or Kees meeuws to leinster!! Linde would be a super signing he was immense in the world cup!!

where did you get the Kees meeuws rumour?

bit old?We dont want to be replacing them every year.

It seems to be pretty much certain the VanDer Linde is coming to Leinster. Gerry Thornley has mentioned it three times now in the last week. If it was untrue - the leinster branch, with who gt has a good relationship, would have put an end to the speculation through him.

Lots of speculation about Nick Evans now too. Ulster are apparently in the hunt too.

    Leinster Transfers:
    Rocky Elsom (Replacing Gleeson)
Van Der Linde (Replacing Le Roux)

Plus a Second Row as I dont rate Hogan as back up and Mal is getting on (one more season left in him?) and we'd be in great shape going into next season!! I like Keogh at 7 with Jennings at 6 but I think Rocky would give us the extra depth we need in the backrow.

I dont think we'd be in the hunt for Evans. So much competition in the backs already, we've great depth there, dont think we need him.

I presume you mean the other way round? Jennings is still not as good a 7 as Gleese, but hopefully he'll get there. He's gonna be a hard man to replace though.

Anyway, I really hope we get Van Der Linde, would be less bothered about Elsom, but would be good news nonetheless. Could do with another scrummy too, Keane isn't great and Willis' shoulder op seems to have destroyed his passing.

Lot of talk about an exodus North. Given that injuries seem to be starting to catch up with Carter I can see him going North along with Evans.

Elsom's a definite no, afaik. Can't get out of his Aussie Rugby Union contract. Fingers crossed for Van Der Linde :)

Ian Humphrey's to Ulster 2 Year deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Spaceman Spiff

Apparently the concern over an exodus is so bad the NZRU is looking to change their selection policy and hopefully just loan players like Carter and Evans rather than lose them completely. I don't even think the All Blacks could handle losing their two best fly halves. If they're leaving, I can only assume that McCaw wouldn't be too far behind

As for the Hernandez rumor, I can't really think of a bigger waste of talent than putting him into the Leicester system. Perhaps that will change if they can get somebody as dynamic as him, but I doubt it. The quality most looked for in a Leicester back is being able to hold onto the ball in contact, speed and creativity would come in a distant second and third.

"Mooted as a possible replacement for Girvan Dempsey at full-back"

WTF? Are Kearney and Fitzgerald invisible? Looking at the 6N, surely Kearney is a shoe-in for the FB spot. Bringing in new backs in Leinster is totally unnecessary; it'd be like Munster signing a new back-row. (Incidentally, speaking of Munster, that guy is the image of Dougie howlett!)

Well he can cover centre which means that the backs might look at least threatening next year

I know that despite their ability, BOD and D'arcy didnt perform this year, but what's not threatening about 12. Contepomi and 13. Fitzgerald?

Even assuming neither BOD or D'Arcy improve their form next season, Leinster have an embarrasment of riches in the back division, between both the senior squad and upcoming players.

Then you have Nacewa at 14 and the world continues at the expense of a out of form Horgan seems fair enough to me

In fairness, while I realise it was due to an unfortunate and rather freakish mix of injuries, Leinster were playing Berne and Warner in the centre for several games this year (and Berne won't even be around next year). Contempomi and Dempsey will only be around for one more year each as well (Conters definitely, presumably Dempsey will retire after next season I'd say). I imagine he is signed as general cover for centre/10 then as a starter.
