Isn't it his girlfriend's job to "get him off"?:D

He is the anti-Christ. Steve Ryder was bland, but inoffensive. The flat dreary tones of Gal puts me off watching.

    Mike.

come on guys. He is not that bad. I agree he isn't one of the best but he is ok. The thing that really ticks me off is the lack of coverage. If i see ken brown in another bunker i think ill flip.

I don't like Ken Brown. Not mad on Lineker as a host either.

I don't think he's as bad as he used to be presenting the golf, he makes my skin crawl presenting MOTD.

I will have nothing said against Ken brown (or Peter Alliss).

I said this here before. He is the only big thing wrong with the golf coverage on BBC. Cant stand the lad as a presenter.

I would agree Lineker is a bit boring but not that bad.
Ken Brown is poor also, respect him for what he has done in the game and he is a nice guy, but I don't think he is suited to commentating.
Peter Alliss and Sam Torrance are different league, two great commentators and Wayne Grady isn't too bad either.
At least they got rid of that annoying Geordie they had at the Open, hope I never see him on the beeb again.

But none of them are really bad, I think the problem here is that some of you guys are so used of all the ad breaks on Sky and Setanta that you just have to have something to complain about.

The beeb is pretty good but ever since Alex Hay left they have struggled to find a good commentator to replace him.

I should I like Brown for his practical insights, last year he did a putting "Master Class"
on a tricky green (are not they all?) and he was so good I thought he should have returned to professional playing!

    Mike.

Lineker is a hopeless presenter at both soccer and golf.
He is especially poor at golf.
He is just too smug and silly.
For a low handicapper his knowledge of the technical aspects of the game/swing is very limited .
He tries to sign off every night with a crappy joke.
He is a prime example of the dearth of talented tv presenters nowadays.

I'm in Australia at the min, and Nick Faldo is part of the commentary team (think is actually American coverage, as Feherty is part of it also).
But Jesus Faldo is annoying, keeps talking about when he won.
'Thats exactly the spot I was in when I won in 1996'
'This is a makable putt. I know this as I made this very putt on the Saturday in 1990, before going on to win'

    SHUT THE F*CK NICK!!!! Jeez.

That's what I thought. IIRC he was commentating on the Irish Open for RTE quite recently.

Ask Des Smyth if he's a nice guy.

He tries to be a bit of a character, but he's a drip.

He commentates for the Golf Channel now.

Lineker is terrible. He doesn't have a clue what he's even saying half the time when reading the autocue. I'm sure he's probably a nice guy but seems to be lacking brains and personality. Why the BBC would have an ex-soccer player presenting the Masters is beyond me.

Although a little dull at least Steve Ryder was an accomplished presenter.

Just imagine the Masters coverage in 20 years time - they'll probably have Rooney presenting by then! :D

I absolutely cannot stand Lineker or Old Man Ailiss. Ailiss really drives me up the wall. He talks about others players bad shots as if he was tiger woods in his day. Hes stuck in the 50's.

    Love Ken brown and Torrance.

I'm sure the British are quite happy with their presenter he is only an anchorman and there to look pretty. Why don't you get RTE to show the masters or any golf with a loveable presenter. I'm sure Pat Kenny would be free, maybe Bertie now he has all this free time could do it. Why do we have to watch foreign TV to see the masters, Irish Open, don't we pay big enough TV fee in IRELAND to get an Irish programme when the tournaments on. We have enough horseracing so a little golf wouldn't be too much to ask

I'd say the British like the majority of the posters on this thread think he's crap. I'm not asking for someone "lovable", just someone who has a clue and can actually present.

He is there only to say hello and goodbye, I don't believe that he thinks he there to talk anything technical on the golf, does he not have the ex players to talk the technical side of the golf. When the golf actually comes on then you have the people that actually commentate talk about the golf when the live feeds are on.

Who do you want to present the golf? give some suggestions who you think should be the anchorman, maybe Eammon Dunphy would be better.

As an Irish forum, would the bigger issue not be, why Irish television does not show any golf, if they did then you wouldn't have to watch the foreign channel BBC or Lineker.

Gary Lineker or lots of Ad breaks?
I'd still go for the continuous coverage every time....

    I like Gary Lineker.
More for Spurs reasons than golf though !!

Do you watch the BBC Coverage??? I wish he was only saying hello and goodbye! Did you see him interviewing Justin Rose? He was so amateur it was cringeworthy.

He just isn't in the same league as the others, such as Dominic Holyer, the Sky Sports guys or even his predecessor, Steve Ryder. I'd be happy with any of them. Presume you are not serious about Dunphy??

If you want to discuss RTE's lack of golf coverage you could start a new thread. For the record though I think RTE are a long way from producing golf coverage of a similar quality to the BBC.
