Yea it's mad, it's like they pluck these dates from the air instead of basing them on anyhting concrete like funding

I have my IE timetable from 2002 and we can expect the city centre to be fully re-signaled to handle more trains per hour by 2006!

This is the same project that is listed on the T21 site, finishing 2012.

Despite the more "positive" amongst us declaring that lessons have been learned, I think the inter urban delay was a pretty decent signal of a Government that spoofs their way through transport planning and a good pointer to how T21 will pan out. Remember T21 was the "neatly spun" method of putting all projects into a shiny new package and revising dates and costs upwards.

The interurban scheme was dogged by ambitious politics, political interference, poor management and a very long and drawn out battle with land owners (farmers). As early as 2001 farmers were refusing access to their lands for surveying. While pro railway people frequently berate the Government for a road bias, I can assure them that our Government frequently **** up the road investment programme. (interurban) Its scheduled to come in 4 to 6 years late. So that really explains the building frenzy going on now. The Kinnegad - Athlone project had its route fencing contract awarded in late 2000. It wasn't fenced until 2004 and as we all know is currently awaiting completion of phase two this summer.

Forget old web pages. Reading my posts is even more depressing. But there's more truth in it as far as Im concerned.
