I am looking for a laptop for my sister with the following criteria

    Budget: 500e
Use: Light use. DVD's, internet, word processing, girly games (no offence, but best description)
    Mobility: not important 15.4"
    Warranty: min 1 year

Sundry: Internal WLAN vital (last laptop WIFI USB replaced several times, and broke 3 USB's at back by getting smacked) minicard / internal.

I would prefer 2GB as vista will be installed I'm guessing.

I did the usual trolling through DELL outlet and laptopsdirect (but wary of some ordering woes from boards.ie) but have turned a bit google eyed and have resorted to this post to try and get some direction.

Sisters current view is to get the lower speced laptop on offer at Dunnes so that spec would be the baseline.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well I'd advise staying away from the Dunnes bargain laptops anyways, get a Vostro if your really stuck , good value for the price, and hard to beat spec wise.
All laptops out now will have internal wireless as standard, you could also have a run through the budget laptops again on laptopdirect as they have a few sub €500 to choose from but I'd suggest you go with Dell.

Would seriously suggest staying away from Dell. Try laptopsdirect.ie

Choose the 2gigs of ram option

You got 2ghz Celeron (its a single core Core 2 Duo basically, decent CPU for a budget laptop) The 8400gs is a really decent card for a laptop so cheap and more than enough for girly games :p 14.1" screen with Webcam, Wifi, 1 year warranty etc

€ 456.88 inclusing VAT and Shipping

P.s You dont need to be a business to buy from the small business section, everyone does it

Cheers. I took another mooch in DELL and am wondering if going for pretty much the same spec but with the Vostro 1500 I would effectively trade out the dedicated graphics over an integrated one but gain the 15.4 screen up from the 14.1, for nearly the same price??

    What do you think?

I would rather the 14" version myself, slightly more portability and a considerably better graphics card...

Its up to you though, have a look in the bargain alerts forum, you may find a better deal over the next few days

This is a great spec for €500

    Another option €500 XP Pro

    Another one with 17" screen
