just though id throw this out there but hows about a sub forum for our custom builds??

kind of on the lines of over in the fitness forum they have a log for their training, > http://boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=839

you make your own thread and update it with pics of parts you get etc etc
and it could be a place you could ask for advice about your next part and the best advice could be given as people have a log of the parts you already have.

You can also keep track of what date you ordered & received each part and how much it cost and problems you hit so other people following in your footsteps could see the mistakes you made and avoid then etc...

Then at the end of the build you post up a pic of the finished product along with maybe a sample of it playing and sit back and just admire!!!

    well??

Theres no need for it unfortunately, IMO. Theres a few lads have done custom builds alright, but not enough to need a whole new sub-forum.

If you're doing a project definitely make a thread with pics and details. A thread should be enough.

well a whole new sub-forum is only a button click away for the admins, hardly wasting internet room, besides im sure it would be more active than some of the forums around here!

I don't think it's necessary either. I've posted threads on my builds before and generally if you have any updates, just post them in the thread and bump it back up. ;)

Hmm, I wouldn't be against the idea. I know when I was lookin' for for some info on projects on this forum and other forums, it could be a bit of a pain in the ar$e, whereas if there was a sub-forum title 'Self Build/Upgrades/DIY all go here' or whatever, it would at least send you in the right direction.

That reminds me, I must tolex me cab :o

i think a thread in the main forum would be way more susceptible to being filled with useless posts and being hijacked, plus if you title your build decent eg, Strat build with floyd rose, amp build etc etc... its easy to know where to look and it could end up a nice little catelogue of builds over time,

who is prepared to go searching through all the threads on this forum because i wouldnt be!

all in all its just another resource for us and it makes our lives easier, plus it would be quite interesting to read a diary of different builds!

Given the very few threads on the subject, a sub forum would be pointless. Besides, it'll look empty when old threads disappear after a month or whatever the timeout is - see Music Reviews to see what I mean. Instruments is the perfect place for the topic.
