I'm trying to hook up my PS3 to my Samsung DVD player with 5.1 surround speakers. I'm using an optical cable, plugged it into the optical out on the PS3 and changed the sound settings to Optical Out and then connected the other end to the DVD player and turn the player on, I don't get any sound at all. What am I doing wrong? Should I be changing some settings on the DVD player?

When you say 'DVD Player' I presume the amp and dvd player are a combined unit? Can you give us a model number for the dvd player.

For a few of the samsung dvd players/home cinema systems, all you'd need to do is hit the aux button on the remote till it comes up "digital in" and then the sound should work.... might be too simple a solution??

I know normally the dvd player will power on in dvd mode and is set to output sound from dvd's only...

I know that on my DVD cinema system the AUX default to analouge signals.
So if it still does not work when you are in AUX, look on your remote for a button labelled "optic" or "digital"

That was it, as simple as that. Just pressed AUX till "digital in" appeared and the sound came out of all 5.1 speakers.

    Thanks!

Sorry obviously the inputs/outputs on the site aint accurate! I didnt think it had an tosl ink (optical) in! According the to the Komplett website the connections are:

    1 x USB ( 4 PIN USB Type A )
    1 x composite video output ( RCA phono )
    1 x component video output ( RCA phono x 3 )
    Audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 )
    1 x SCART ( 21 PIN SCART )
    1 x HDMI output ( 19 pin HDMI Type A )
    1 x SPDIF output ( TOS Link )

No mention of a toslink in?
