NTL Overcharging

On my latest bill, I have no idea why, but I am being massivly overcharged. They have billed me twice for broadband, and one of them is €80! I should only be paying €40

I've called them a number of times over the last few days, they don't know why its showing this, but don't seem to be able to rectify it. They promise a callback form a manager, which has never come.

I'm thinking of cancelling the direct debit as once they take the money it will be even harder to get back.

Anyone know how best to tackle this?
    Thanks

NTL bill you for two months at a time, which would explain the €80.

But underneath that there is a charge for €60 for the period before, which I have lready paid. The double is only on the broadband and not the tv

What's the total on the bill?

It is potentially dangerous to cancel the direct debit - as NTL will charge you if a direct debit is returned to them unpaid. (Incidentally afaik they do not warn customers of these charges when they are setting up direct debits:mad::mad:)

Under the direct debit scheme you are entitled to 14 days notice so that issues like this can be be cleared up. Under the direct debit scheme a disputed amount should not be charged. Warn NTL that if they proceed with this charge that they are in breach of the direct debit scheme (not that they will give a damn anyways) but it will put you on the right side of things. You can then ask your bank to reverse the debit if NTL proceed. You should then report them to IPSO.

It is mindbogglingly absurd that they cannot rectify it. Warn them next time that you have a friend who works on the Joe Duffy show!!!

The direct debit scheme rules are availabe at www.ipso.ie

From the guide: (An originator is the company billing)
    Originators Must:........

Ensure that disputed amounts are not debited.
    ....

It is strange how the guides to the direct debit system are so hard to come by. Most people are not aware of IPSO and I have never seen a guide available in a bank branch. Sadly there is absolutely no sanction available against companies who abuse the scheme.:mad:
