Hey Im looking for advice on getting fit. At the moment Im not anywhere near it. But im off the fags now for 6 months and figure its about time to take up a new habit!
Im a fairly skinny lad and was a good enough long distance runner back in my school days. Thats what I want to get back into now but I also want to bulk up a bit as well in terms of physcial strength.
Now, ive never been in a gym a day in my life so I dont really know what to expect from them or if it would suit me at the moment as Im nowhere near fit, unsure about the way the machines work and would probably embarrass myself trying to lift weights! But is that the best place to start or would I be better off just putting on a pair of runners and start jogging down in a park or something until im more confident? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated

TBH it would be hard to give you assistance based on the above.

You will need to do more research yourself and come back with more specific questions. Check out all the stickies ,design a program and post it here for others to critique it.

Most people will tend to stick with a physical activity if they ENJOY doing it.

Some people can do gyms ... but many just find them tedious.

Over the years, I have seen many people take up 5-a-side soccer and stick with it. (In fact I have seen many people get virtually addicted!).

My recommendation is: Find something you enjoy , consider a team sport like 5-a-side soccer. (no previous experience necessary).
