    Hi,

I haven't heard anything either. Its hard waiting when we've been told we'll hear something this week! Either way hope it comes soon. I wonder how they'll make contact, probably by letter.

I'm not sure how this afternoon's announcement affects this- all government departments, and public sector bodies are to reduce their payrolls by 3% by the end of next year. It probably means a massive slowdown in recruitment, and most people who retire will not be replaced. Annual payrolls have a natural increase of over 3% (with annual increments)- so it actually translates to a 5.5-6% reduction in staff numbers.

In further news- Metro North and West put on hold indefinitely.
Decentralisation- on hold until such time as the Decentralisation Implementation Group report back on property acquisition costs (aka put on the long finger).
Payrises for government ministers and senior civil servants put on hold indefinitely.
All advertising and publicity budgets halved.
External consultants and external training cancelled.
    No new advisors.

Its not going to be fun.......

The Central Bank is independent of government though so I assumed its recruitment procedures would be too?

Its still part of the Public Sector- whose budgetary and staffing decisions are governed by Department of Finance sanction. While its operational decisions are fully independent, it is, as a body, under the aegis of the Department of Finance.

Its recruitment procedures are semi-independent (much the same as the Revenue Commissioners and those of many of the State Bodies are), its operational budget is not however- and akin to elsewhere, is being reduced.

Allowing for the age profile of staff- there is a natural wastage of over 3% per annum- its possible that by getting rid of contract staff as their contracts expire- that the balance could very possibly be made up quite rapidly- even government departments and state bodies have silly amounts of contractors. So- potentially its not quite as bad as the headlines suggest........

    It won't be affected:
We will be reverting to all candidates next week with the outcome of their applications.

The announcement today with regard to public sector cut backs will have non effect on this competition.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 32,286 Mod ✭✭✭✭The_Conductor

    100% true.
The application is for a competition which is for a place on a panel.
Movement on the panel is entirely a different matter.
Let us know what happens with yours- I've been assigned positions on 2 of the panels but am not hopeful.

Hi, just wondering did you get this information from Central Bank? Does that mean we've to wait until next week??

Mmm, I also noticed in the Irish Times that the Central Bank signed a lease on extra office space on the quays last week, while all this recession/job freeze hullabaloo was in the pipeline, so I'm guessing it's full steam ahead for them recruitment-wise.

Shame we've another week to wait-a courtesy email would have been nice.

Cheers for sharing the info though Tan Princess!

can't believe we have to wait another week to find out... they could at least have sent us a quick e mail to let us know!
they're really keeping up in suspense for as long as possible, it's 3 months since closing dates for the applications. longest job application process ever

What's killing me is not knowing how many people were actually interviewed for the 25 initial jobs so as to have an idea about what we're up against!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 286 ✭✭n.catenthusiast

yeah thats pretty much all it comes down to ultimately. Was trying to guess it out a bit. There were about 16 candidates at my aptitude test, which was I think the last one.
From that it logically follows that there were approx. 100 candidates going for interview, although admittedly thats a completely arbitrary figure I plucked out of my head.

I did the assesment on sat April 12th, there were approx 20 people. One guy was sick and left before the test even started and was told he could sit the ones on the following Thursday. How many more sessions were there? And surely they shortlisted after the results as well so hopefully it's less than 100 called for interview! I've lost all hope thinking that!!!!

well i did just pick the figure 100 at complete random out of my head, so don't loose hope just yet!

    Hiya,
For anybody waiting, I emailed HR yesterday, so see what the story is. Apparently it'll be next week before they will be in touch.
So nothing this week. I also asked whether the recruitment freeze etc would affect things, but they didn't really answer. Just said:

    ,

We will be reverting to all candidates in this regard next week.

    Kind regards,

    HR

    slightly worrying for me.....

They said that to me LAST week! WTF is going on. Thats ridiculous. They haven't contacted my current employer for a reference yet so either they aren't hiring or my interview didn't go as well as I think.

    heh

i applied for the bank officer position with bank

    applied in march,

    test in april

found out then i passed the test in early june, did my medical a week after that, they have checked my references as well, its just a painstaking process, its been 5 weeks since i was told that i passed that the test and no word since, im led to believe that my position starts in september and that it takes a few months for your security clearence to come through,

i presume that the BO and BE are the same recruitment process, its just very annoying that i dont have a definite date set for the commencement of my employment

hope this helps a small bit

    thanks nobby,
I'll be sure not to raise my hopes at all! even if I get the job it'd be another couple of weeks before I start working! Makes you wonder what kind of environment we'd be workin in if successful...

I wouldn't worry any more than anyone else Tan Princess-they'd never check references until after they'd confirmed to you that you'd have the job.

I'd be more concerned that the cutbacks actually are affecting recruitment, and they don't know themselves what the story is....

    Hi,
Has anyone heard anything yet? The waiting is killing me!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 202 ✭✭Tan Princess

I just phoned them and the bloke I was speaking to said he wasn't dealing with that competition but he'd get someone to phone me. FFS
Well they phoned me back and said we'd have letters by friday?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Kazd

Thanks Tan Princess. I can't believe its taking so long and for people who haven't gotten the job, its bad form to keep them waiting that long to say no!! Fair enough if you've gotten the job it wouldn't be so bad. I wonder how they'll let people know though. I'll be a bit annoyed if its a rejection by email!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 202 ✭✭Tan Princess

Yer man I was talkign to on the phone was a bit clueless presumably an office junior he said I'd get a letter and then I said but would I get a phone call if I was successful and he said probably! So some contact by friday allegedly! I'm getting worried as I'm just finishing up college and don't have anything else lined up despite 5 interviews!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Kazd

Ye I know what you mean. I finished last year and got a good job temping but sick of it now and contract up soon. And now with the threatened recruitment freeze. Most of the jobs I'm waiting on are public sector. That does sound a bit vague though. Bit worrying as I'm assuming there were quite a few people for the interviews. Like they can't leave everyone till Friday. It's Tuesday already!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 charmed83

i won't believe what say they about getting back in contact with us until i see a letter coming through the letter box. i e mailed them last week and all they said was

"We hope to be back in contact with all candidates early next week"

well, if now they say it's gonna be friday.. it just seems like they are putting it off indefinitely.. not very professional.

we should collectively keep harassing them by phone / e mail till we get a definite response. it's starting to really annoy me!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Kazd

I know, me too. I'd rather know either way and I'd take early next week as being at the latest Wednesday. I'd just like to know!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭smartypants

personally i hope they pull all the jobs, i hate to think people like you impatient children will be working in those roles...

    and i quote
"we should collectively keep harassing them by phone / e mail till we get a definite response. it's starting to really annoy me!!!"

and you say that thet aren't professional..you all for one should how much red tape is in the public sector...its obviously the red tape delaying this process...

i think that's a bit unfair. i mean if they had let us know there was delays or red tape holding them back i wouldn't mind so much.

but when they said to everyone at the interview stage "we'll be in touch the 2nd week of july" and then just don't let us know what the story is..
apart from saying "we'll be in touch next week"...which they've been saying for the past 2 weeks.
