Am I the only one that rasher has an entirely different, non-food based meaning for? When I was a kid, I heard the phrase 'show us your rasher' many times when there wasn't a sandwich in sight:eek:
They probably couldn't publish pics of that kind of a rasher sambo though.

In the UK we call them bacon sarnies, but now I'm calling them rasher sambos! Meh, I'll get the hang of this Irish lingo yet! BTW I was actually born in Galway, but left the shores of Ireland when I was only ickle! :D

When I was a nipper there was a character in my english school book called "Sambo". He had nothing to do with rashers.

When I lived in England I used to get very strange looks when I'd tell workmates at lunchtime "I'm going for a sambo. Want me to get you one?"

I've heard from some English and American colleagues (in their 50's) that the word 'sambo' used to have racial connotations, and was considered quite insulting if used as a racial epithet. I don't that's ever been the case in Ireland.

Oh noes! Now I have to report your post, which contains my post, and then manage it in the Mods forum, which means I will be trapped in a cyclic-redundancy-check-reported-post loop for the rest of the day. Oh noes!

If a niece or nephew of mine corrected my use of a particular word I'd tell them that they were being a cheeky little fcuker, mind their own goddamn business & steer clear of BG&RH as that sort of carry on is frowned upon there. Hmmpff!

When I was younger, my mother used to put some streaky bacon into the oven while it was heating up for the sunday dinner. She cooked it for such a long time that it never got burned, but retained its tasty greasiness, and having a plate of crispy sticks of bacon around was always a good way to relax the stomach after a night of boozing, yet prepare it for the meal of the week. My dad picked a good wimmins!
