I hope you're not making a coffee table!

That's nice. What's it to go into?

I know of a couple for sale, but I'll only share more if you're nice and let us all know what you're up to! ;-)

What capacity are you looking for, and do you want EFI or Carbed etc.

If it's for a kit car or something like that, the 3.5L Rover V8 is the best in the business. A 5-speed 'box from a Rover SD1 to match.

If it's American, I guess anything from a 'Vette or a Mustang would do, although you might have a problem sourcing one of those this side of the water.

    Nice
I'm not into boats but I always did like this style of speedboat.

Thanks for the offer the Holden's are GM motors and the windsors are ford, I think and a few of them in a box posted to Ireland would be the price of buying a new engine.
I know in Australia and the USA V8's are two a penny but here people seem to think they drink too much, It's ok for us to drink too much but not are cars :D

Thanks, I love the old style boats and the fact that they were hand built instead of carbon copy fiberglass ones.
This is my last build if you would like look.

Loving that. What kind of money would a boat like that cost to build?

Question on the engine - I thought that the marine people preferred diesel engines to eliminate the risk of fire / explosions with petrol?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 6,344 Mod ✭✭✭✭fergal.b

Hi gn3dr, Most sport boats are petrol and the bigger cruisers are diesel just to cut down on the cost of running them.
If you were thinking of building one I would go with an outboard first like my other build. http://s753.photobucket.com/albums/xx179/fergalbutler/

The inboards engine and all the parts that go with it will work out about €12.000 new and then the cost of the boat, but with the outboard the biggest cost is your time and timber as you can pick up a good outboard quite cheep and clean it up to fit the look of the boat like I did,I paid €50 for this.
