Before you get that camera would you not think of getting the 40D?

400D to 450D is a strange upgrade (seems to me) plus with cashback offer at the moment youd almost get a 40D body for that price

Why would you pick the 40d over the 450d? What is better about it?

Buying a 450D for €740? You could have got the 40D - a more robust camera - from HK for less (€727 from Kea Photo). Likewise of course with the 450D (€575).

And why did you feel the need to upgrade from a 2 month old camera in the first place?

Hi, well I prefer not to buy electrical/Mobile/Camera type stuff online, I just feel better with peace of mind buying from a shop.
It's just too much hassle to send an item back to even Komplett etc let alone a far of place.
I upgraded the 2 month old camera because I wanted my special friend to get into DSLRs....
I did think about the 40D but after having it in my hands and reading threads here I put the money into glass instead, namely the Canon 70-200 f/4 L :)

I am only new to DSLRs and the 40D is just too big and heavy/ugly :p
The 400D was fine for me and greatly look forward to the 450D.

    /edit
That sites def cheap, would save me 500 on the lens/camera in total but its Ebay!! Have had problems with them b4.....

Try this guy Flash Camera eBay Shop. He's extremely cheap and based in Scotland. No VAT or duty.

According to This Review it borrows a lot from the 40D so is ideal for those of us only moving into DSLR territory.:)

The new 18-55 mm IS lens that comes with the 450D is it worth getting with the camera?
Besides the IS feature is it in any way better then the original kit lenses?

I can't really say. Because I never had the 400D and can only go by the reviews of the lenses online. I'm very busy in work this week so haven't had a chance to play with it. I'll try to post some pictures in the coming days.:)

I went ahead and bought it with the kit after all!
€820 in Gunn's....not tried it yet as charging the battery!
I'll try it out at the Chinese/Tibet protest at the GPO at 2pm. :)
The 3" lcd screen is far bigger looking than the 2.5 on the 400D btw, it's LUVLEY!

Took these earlier. Please note that the camera is in full auto:o, no filters of any kind, and shot in highest jpeg resolution, with the 18-55 IS kit lens. I'm sure ye'll find loads wrong, but I'm very impressed with the definition. Picture are a bit soft after my faithful and trusty Fuji s5000, so I'll probably have to adjust the settings. Any suggestions?

I've said this to other people here before, theres a steep learning curve when you get your first DSLR, no matter which make.

Keep at it, but take it out of auto most of the time, aperture priority would be the place to start learning IMHO.

I fully intend to. Have bought the 'Understanding Exposure' book etc. Just posted these because someone asked me to.:)

Heres some pics taken of the Chinese protest at the GPO earlier today, alas going to this I'd forgotten about the Palastinian protest at the central bank. :(

    Is your camera a 450D?

so have you had a chance to use it much yet? can i ask since your coming straight from a 400D do you think it is a good upgrade from the 400D?

I used it lots on it's first day yesterday!
Outdoors in the rain at the Pro-Chinese demo and last night at a pub gig.
Picture wise I can't tell a diff but remember I'm no expert, the live feature is so so, I am now used to using the eye finder...
The best feature by far is the bigger LCD screen, it's 3" now as opposed to the 2.5 on the 400D.
There are other diff's I guess but not got round to 'em yet!!
I am def glad I upgraded though, I am never afraid to spoil myself, I'm worth it!!
Others who are more shrewd with their money prob wouldn't bother though.
It's €820 in Gunn's of Wexford St btw and they have a proper 2gb SD card for €25.
Oh one other thing the 18-55 lens (IS now added) on the 450D is def better then the kit lens on the 400D.
Body only is €740, just tell them it's €749 in Conn's....
The after service is fantastic there too.

All positive with the camera so far, bar one thing... the flash fired once on me while in the closed position. Hopefully it was a once off and there is no damage - but it made a bit of a smell at the time. Seems to have survived just fine though.

That's an unusual one - did it do it again or only the one time?

Just the once so I'll post up here if it happens again. I have been using it plenty since then and it has been working perfectly.
