This should be stickied maybe cos Im sure its come up before:

I have some 3v vouchers lying around the place with little to no cash on them. But why leave it with 3V? Those filthy theives. Charging a fiver for their service and then quietly sweeping up your change.

    so I have 4 vouchers:

    1.65
    1.24
    1.04
    5.08

How would you spend the money?

I think there was already a thread on this. You could buy a few songs on iTunes or buy something on Dealextreme.

    Pay for music? :pac:

whats the shipping rate from dealz though? Its a yank site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

DealExtreme is a Hong Kong site I think. Shipping is free for everywhere. There prices are amazing. It is good for iPod accessories but shipping usually takes about 2-3 weeks.

Try CDWOW or Play.com for some cheap CDs or DVDs. Or maybe something on Ebay.

3V also has their own online music store quick and easy to get a few tracks.

If you have a friendly retailer and go in at a quiet time, you might be able to get them to accept a list of voucher numbers.

If you want poker / gift items, (self promotion!!!:D) you can go onto one of my sites (below) and list the voucher numbers, expiry dates & amount left on each voucher in the comments box and I would be happy to process them. - And all UK sourced products were reduced over the past 2 weeks by average of 20%!!! (pity other retailers can't do similar!)

This is why although a 3V is safer than a normal credit card it can also be a pain in the arse. I've a good few with €2,€3 and various other small amounts. It's a pain in the arse that it costs you money to get back your own money.

Incidently has anyone topped up their 3V buy MORE than €20 lately? Says on the website that if you top up by €20 they give you €5 free. I topped up by €30 and got zip. Is it if you top up by ONLY €20 that that applies?

Yep, it's only buying €20 that gets an extra €5! that got me too!

Where does everyone here buy their 3V vouchers? I went into Bray and Greystones and got turned down by 2 shops that are listed as 3V retailers-they both have the Payzone sign over their shopfronts. Seems the method is not so popular with shopkeepers as it used to be.

I would open a new paypal account, add the "cards" and transfer the funds to another paypal account {my usual one} and that way I would have a lump sum in my paypal funds. In your case you would have around €8 after some deductions have been made.

I never use the card as a card. I simply use one account to "make a payment" to another paypal account. That way your account is always in FUNDS as oppose to relying on a card which will always have a bit left in it and which expires in time.

That has happened to me too. I thought a shop would do 3V vouchers because they had the sign but they only did Top Up.

I have heard of an alternative launching in next couple of weeks to 3V. Called go&pay. Basically print invoice and pay in post office, and thankfully it's free

That would be a welcome addition

In the meantime, where did everyone buy their last 3v voucher??

    Thanks.

Not really worth it because you can only use it on certain websites. http://www.goandpay.ie/shop

Apparently ebay arent supporting its use, seeing as ebay own paypal.

My wife transfers the odds to my paypal account and vice versa.
We don't leave anything on the 3v vouchers. :)

Or you could always set up a paypal account and send it to that. But be careful they only allow so many cards to be added then lock your account. Check the details on the 3V website for the details.

Also this is on the paypal site:
Q: Can I use Gift cards, Prepaid cards, One-Time Use cards or Virtual Cards on my PayPal account?

A: PayPal does not recommend adding a gift card, prepaid card, virtual card, or one-time use card to your PayPal account. Although some of these cards may be accepted, most will not work with our system due to the security checks we have in place.

There is a limit of cards you can add, I think it is about 20

I've been using 3V with my paypal for over a year.
It's correct, they will lock your account once you have used a few of them, but once you verify details you'll be fine. That's what happened to me.
Had to send proof of address etc via the paypal account system. Simply scan and attach.

    No hassle since.

    Your welcome.

I know it's a pain having to pay the charges but at least you get to keep most of the remaining balance on your 3V voucher and not lose it or get charged €2.50 to get back the odds.

    :)

Oh and at some point you may find that they will request proof of address and ID due to the fact that you will be adding and removing so many visa numbers/vouchers.
I had the same problem just before Christmas last year and once the info was supplied via the online system everything was fine. I have had no problems since.

i've had my paypal account for a while, and i have been adding/removing 3v visa vouchers. I havent had a request for my proof of address and ID yet and also once i supply them with theses details does this lift the limits on my account ? I dont fancy adding my bank account details to get verified.

    Thanks

If you've changed your account to a premier account your limits should change.

They'll normally just ask you to fax or submit a scan of your passport and a bill. Wait till they do ask, but if they don't then don't worry about it.
