    hi,

Here is the situation, I’m Mexican, I applied for a software tester position, sent the work permit application, now, I got a refusal because the employer did not advertised in FAS and national newspapers, and also it was a first time application. I had a friend from Ukraine, he is currently in the U.S, but he told me he got his work permit through an agency
Does anyone know any agency which could help me to go through this work permit thing?
    Thanks

Agencies will charge a fortune for this kind of thing and are not worth the hassle imo. log onto the department of social and family affairs website and you can read the requirements for work permits there.

Agencies that apply for work permit??? Do you mean work visa; you would have to return home to apply for this. I worked with 2 Canadians that had work visa; you would have to be worth more than 60k for them to bother.

    Hi Star,

I don't know about agencies, but I've been told that you can only get a permit for a job that the employer could not fill with an Irish or EU (including Bulgarian and Romanian) candidate. That is why they have to advertise with FÁS - to either get one of these nationals or to prove that they tried and were unsuccessful. An agency would not be able to do anything about that for you.

The employment permit information on the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (http://www.entemp.ie/publications/labour/2007/guideworkpermits.pdf) says the following:
    Labour Market Needs Test
A vacancy, in respect of which an application for a work permit is being made, must be advertised with the FÁS/EURES employment network and additionally in local and national newspapers, for three days, to ensure that, in the first instance a national of the EEA or Switzerland, or in the second instance a national of Bulgaria or Romania, cannot be found to fill the vacancy. Evidence that this has been done must be included with the application.
Perhaps if the employer now advertised with FÁS and was unsuccessful, you could then apply for the permit? They are quite quick to issue them when you make the application. Good luck!
