FTA with Sky dish and LNB

Might be a stupid question, but i will ask anyway...

I have a Sky HD box installed in the house, and have been reading about these FTA channels that are not available on Sky. So I'm wondering if getting an FTA box from Maplin would be a good idea.

Can i split one of the input connections that's going into the Sky box and use it with the FTA box? if i where to get one of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=97916&doy=7m4) could i split both connections from the sky box and able to record stuff on both the Sky box and the FTA box?

    Thanks.

You can't split a satellite signal, at least not in the way you are suggesting.

If you have Sky HD, you probably have a quad lnb on the dish. You can run two more cables from the dish to a new decoder like the one described.

    Hope this helps.

No problem. If you can wait a month or so, you may find a dedicated freesat box (www.freesat.co.uk) to be even an even better buy.
