Just wondering how long this will take me? Starting a new job there in a few weeks time and wondering how bad a commute this is by car.

It's N4/M4 to Liffey Valley then M50 south bound until exit 14 (Dun Laoghaire).

Need to be in work for 10am. And finishing around 6:30.

Would be hugely thankful for any idea of travellign times.

    Thanks,

    t

It will vary a lot over the next while. The M50 will improve with most of the road works gone, but will disimprove when new traffic patterns emerge.

I suggest a trial run or two, starting at 8am.

It's been a while since I was on the M50 southbound on a daily basis, but what I found was that from the Red Cow onwards the traffic was always light by 9.30, in fact from there to J14 was usually a 10 minute run.

Getting in for 10 should mean that J14 itself is relatively easy to deal with, most of the traffic will have cleared at that stage.

The roadworks add an extra twist, if anything goes wrong (e.g. a breakdown) that can completely block the road & you end up being stuck there for ages.

In the evenings, even at 6 PM it could be hit & miss - one problem is that you can't see the M50 northbound until you actually join it at J14, so if the traffic has backed up that far you don't see it until you're driving down the on-ramp. And the next exit is Firhouse. Dublin City FM (103.2) is far more reliable for info than AA Roadwatch so check it out before you leave.

As an alternative I sometimes drove by Grange Road/Taylors Lane as far as the Firhouse junction if northcbound traffic was really bad in the evenings.

Another problem at the moment is the traffic getting out of the business park in the evenings - there's a big volume of traffic coming up from Brewery road, Leopardstown road & Sandyford industrial estate. Factor in the amount of people driving out of the business park & you can sometimes be stuck there for a while! The lights at Bewleys Hotel sometimes add to the problems. The recent roadworks (Luas works) have been a problem too.

Finally - when coming out of the business park in the evenings watch out for cars coming from Brewery road in the wrong lane (i.e. in the left hand lane on the roundabout but turning right to go towards the M50). Most of them won't be indicating anyway!

Can you work from home? ;)

i travel m4/n4/m50 to dun laoghaire regularly but take j16 @ cherrywood purely because there's less traffic lights.

usual journey time is 1hr +/- but did it sunday morning in 35mins. :D
