Looking for help with 37" plasma

    Hi All

I will be in the market for a new tv soon and need some advice.
I would rather have a plasma over lcd as i will be using it mostly for ps3 gaming and blu-ray movies. I will also be watching sky sd. Might get Sky hd in the future but not sure.

My problem is that 37" is the biggest i want to get as my living room is not too big. I want full hd (1080p) but as far as i know you can't get a full hd plasma screen that small (37"). Is this correct and can someone recommend an equivalent LCD if so. I can spend between 1500 and 2000 euro.

    Thanks in advance.

If you're gonna be using it for gaming, I'd suggest LCD over plasma.
There are problems with image retention on plasma's, whereas LCD doesn't suffer from this.

If you decide on an lcd this may be all you need. For 900e, a full hd from a well known manafacturer is very good

Thanks for your help. But would it be really that bad on a plasma for gaming?

if you get a good plasma you wont have a problem with gaming. i have a 42" panasonic and use it for tv, dvd& blu ray and gaming on a ps3 & wii.

when i play a few hours of games and i change the channel to watch some tv, i can see a faint outline of where the scores etc from the game were. but after a few minutes they're gone.

a good analogy is imagine you looked at a bright light. then look at a blank wall. you can see the outline of the light for a while, then it eventually disappears.

on good plasmas now, screen burn rarely happens. i went for plasma because any of the lcds i saw were fine on gaming but crap on sd tv. the plasma i got is just an all round stunner!

and at 37", the difference between full hd and hd ready is negligible. my 42" is hd ready and even blu ray on it looks stunning.

Can't believe people still go on about Burn-In with Plasmas. I've never had a problem with my 37" Panny.

Either way Plasma's handle motion much better than most LCDs so in general are better for gaming. For example, that Samsung linked above is 8ms. In gaming and when watching sport, this will be noticeable.

..but.. In your budget, you'll be able to afford a fantastic TV whether it be LCD or Plasma.

Saw one of these over the weekend in Alliance Electric in Dublin. Looked fantastic and within your budget.

    Panasonic TX-37LZ85 (€1599)

But like Moe said, 1080p at 37" isn't really noticeable so you could pick up a Plasma at 37" 720p

    There's nobody talking about burn-in!
Image retention was mentioned, and confirmed by Moe.

Thanks TakeTheVeil. This tv looks like it's the one for me. I was leaning towards Panasonic after reading this forum and a few others. Will post here about how i get on if I go ahead with it.

Thats the LCD version, its a fine fine TV. I rate Panasonic LCDs very highly also.

Burn-in is pretty much impossible these days, never heard or seen of it on nwere Panasonic or Pioneer plasma TVs.

Drop in to their shop on caple street and you'll be able to cut a deal. Either get a couple of euros taken off, a free dvd-upscaler or an extended warranty something like that.

Let us know how you get on.
