i agree completely. i'd maybe include Anderson instead of Arteta though.

and anyone who's included Benjani, Martin Petrov or Stephen Ireland clearly stopped watching football at Christmas.

Very difficult to leave out Fabregas and Gerrard, but they dont fit my formation, with attacking full-backs.

They would fit your formation far better than Bentley and Ronaldo imo

That team has one midfielder who just sits in front of the defence, no one to do anything else in the centre, usually a 5-3-2 or 3-5-2 has 3 CM's, the attacking full backs do the job of wingers

    Hart

    Evra

    Mascherano
    Fabregas

    Ronaldo
    Gerrard
    Hleb

Tough leaving Adebayor and Clichy and Flamini out and it's odd to have 3 liverpool players in there. But i think they've each been the best in the league in their position.

    Van Der Sar
    Sagna--Ferdinand--Vidic--Evra
    Flamini----Fabregas
    --Ronaldo---Gerrard----Cole--
    Torres

Tough on the Arsenal trio of Gallas, Adebayor and Hleb who played out of their skin for most of the season, but they are fading now that it matters. Mascherano deserves a mention too, but I felt his best performances were in the CL and Flamini has offered a bit mroe this season. Toss-up between Joe Cole and Young/Bentley, but I felt Cole's game suited my team better :). Honorable mentions also to Jolean Lescott, Richard Dunne, Martin Laurson, Robbie Keane and Wayne Rooney. No standouts in the goalkeeping stakes really, any of a few candidates might have taken it - VDS pips it based on the amount of goals he's conceded.

    There you go, definitive :P

Evra left out as i like to pick defenders who can, you know, defend. going forward is a bonus.

Rooney a sure thing for me, he might not get the goals himself but he's been immense this season.

It's alright, I'd argue with him, but the fact he put Clichy in just shows how silly the point is.

In a rare moment of agreement on the soccer board, almost every single poster has chosen the same back five. The end is nigh!

I'd put Clichy in ahead of Evra but he's made a couple of seriously stupid mistakes that have cost Arsenal points.

i'm just going by the full 90 minute games i've seen this season and picked a team from that.

it used to be a bonus for a full back to be able to attack, but now its a bonus if he can defend. Evra is a prime example of how its changing.

maybe i'm wrong then, i havnt seen him make any major mistakes

I strongly disagree. When he first started he was dodgy defensively but over the last 18 months he's been so so important to united defensively as well as offensively. his timing and strength in the tackle are excellent. i think the fact that he's so good going forward blinds people to how good of a defender he actually is.

The reason why the point is silly, because it's not like you're picking Carragher on the left, somebody like Lescott, you're picking somebody in that exact mould! Clichy is just as offensive as Evra, indeed him Cole and Evra are all very very similar players.

some interesting stats on both Evra and Clichy

Clichy pretty much dominates across the board....
