they seem to have a great spec. would they be worth the 420euro or so. are acer a good brand?

They look good alright. Spec is quite good for the price. Acer used to have problems with build quality but that has changed in the past few years so they are quite good now.

Sales gimmick?
If you do decide to ring them don't commit to a sale. Just get the specs off them and post them here to be on the safe side.
