Should you get paid for attending an Induction course?

I had to attend an hour and a half induction course on Friday for two day shut down in a union shop next week. Normally these courses run the day work starts but this one was run the friday before the job started. Should one normally get payed for attending these courses?

Anything you do as part of your job, you should get paid.

This includes any kind of training course.
