I am trying to install a hard drive in to a pvr.

THe hard drive is Hitachi DeskStar T7K500 - hard drive - 250 GB - ATA-133

The drive is meant to be set to master so I have it vertical on the left most and right most pin.

The hard drive is making a sound when I turn it on. Its a long drone and then a short drone repeated.

Any one know what that might mean?

what type of pvr? is it meant to take any drive

do you have to format it a certain way maybe?

i've had media players before that were fussy about the way the drive was formated, like the allocation size setting

Dont think I'm allowed to say what type of PVR.

I' going to update the firmware and see if that helps tomorrow

    okay...

i've looked into upgrading the harddrive in a philips hdd video recorder and all the info I found said that if it was an 80gb recorder, it wouldn't take a bigger drive and you needed to format the drive with philips software, but if you cloned the origional hard drive with ghost that you could swap in the cloned drive

Every manufacturer is going to be different so you'll probably have to search for info posted by somebody who has tried it before, and find out what type of file system the pvr needs

have you looked in all the system menus to make sure there is no format drive option that might set up the disk for you. I'd imagine some boxes would have this
