Alright, so my nearly 2 year old has started giving me jip of late. So have just re-installed os (leo) & all going nicely thank you very much! Thing I've just noticed is the mac itself could do with a good bath! ok, so that wouldnt be too smart then so anyone out there got any pearls of wisdom on how to clean keyboard and case?

    thanks.

I gave my keyboard and trackpad a clean with one of those old monitor wipes for CRT monitors.

    Seemed to do the trick.

toothpaste seems to be the way to go, havent tried it yet though.

I'd say you have to be very careful introducing toothpaste to the keyboard though, no point in the thing being shiny white and minty fresh, if you damage the keys or trackpad.

Apart from the pressure from rubbing and moisture from rinsing, would you not risk powdery residue getting into the delicate innards, fans, speakers and optical drives ?

Slightly off-topic. Do the black Macbooks fade or alter with age ?

Good question - in a year of so there may be a new tribe of gray macbooks about. combination of white mb's getting dirty & black mb's fading!!!

No, my wife's one (new in Feb '07) is the same colour as ever, with just some light shininess all over, from being in bags etc, and a lot of shininess on the keys and on the trackpad.

When new, it was fully matt black and looked great, but it still looks 90% great.
