    Haha. I lol'd. :D

My 3c: Go for it. Your expectations are suitably low. It'll probably be less sh!t than you expect. Then you can save me 2 hours of my life by telling me not to watch it because it's sh!t.

That's what I heard and a mate of mine who thinks that Karate Kid is the best film ever told me that this film is pretty good if you look at it in the same sort of light

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,639 ✭✭✭PeakOutput

    so i went

the guy that sold me the ticket(mate from college) mocked me suitably for being on my own and seeing that film he even tried to persuade me to go see others but i stuck to my guns.

it was cheesy as **** and really predictable but i couldnt help but like it actually.

hot scantily clad girls + fighting = win

i wouldnt say it paints mma in a good light but its not a particularly bad one either. the fight scenes were mainly unrealistic suprise suprise but fun to watch all the same.

it did encourage me to text my black belt mate to see if he was up for sum training in the last few weeks of college so i can maybe stop being just a spectator of mma so if i stick with that little thing seeing the film will have been a good thing

went to see it too....I liked it...when I was walking out I heard both"I wanna kick the s*** into sum1!" and also..."I want to start mma!!" Now I'm not sure if the people this movie is going to bring into the gym are the type of people I would want in it, but still...no such thing as bad advertisement eh!?:D
A nice twist at the end IMO, it wasn't ALL predictable!

From someone who has no idea about MMA it wouldnt be THAT bad but from someone who has a decent knowledge of the great sport of Mixed Martial Arts will probably find it ridiculosly stupid. For instance he can do moves like a flying kneebar but cant escape a standing Gillotine. The MMA trainer (played by Djimon Hounsou) is a good charactar but the rest of the cast wouldnt look out of place in the new High School Musical Movie.

I cant say it was completly terrible though as I did enjoy the fact that it was about MMA and the girls were hot:D

I saw it last night. Wasnt as bad as people said it was going to be but their was alot of cheese in it .Near the end of the film when the two guys gave each other the cheesy nod of aprovel there was alot of laughter in the cinima. I was impressed about how much of the submisions and ground work they showed I though they would focus more on the stand up for the people who dont know MMA

lol yeah it did inspire me to go training after alright but only because i think it was so crap lol think of karate kid + rocky + typical american high school film (with a bit of dodgy MMA). Total rip off. and seriously wots the score with whatever he did to his ribs (like breaking them), then getting slammed onto concrete and getting straight up to win??!! cmon

    I saw this today.

Before going in I read a review that said this movie was "full of tits- of the male variety". Pretty accurate.

To be honest I thought I'd be able to enjoy it more than I did, but something about it rubbed me up the wrong way. I definitley think it doesn't hold up well against 'The Karate Kid'. The hero was a complete tool, thankfully I've never come across anyone like that (who takes their personal emotional problems out on their training partners and coach) in an Irish MMA gym. Daniel LaRusso may have been a wimp but at least he was a likeable underdog.

I was thinking of buying some gear from Combat Sports International, but seeing as their own-brand gloves and merchandise were plastered all over the movie now I dunno if I want to! ;)

The movie was pants - and it wasn't the MMA that let it down, you're going to expect over the top action in the fights for the camera, I didn't expect to see a really technical, drawn out half guard battle for the final fight.

The script was awful, the acting dire, editing upsetting and the soundtrack woeful.

I'd like to point out that I've never seen a teenage dancing movie, like Bring It On or the likes, but I'd imagine that's what this movie is. It is terrible, think the Karate Kid as written by a guy with ADHD. Kid moves to a new town, gets the crap beaten out of him, goes to a famous kratty teacher, learns how to be the best, around, and beats up the nasty rich kid. Except unlike Danielson, this guy is a right pr1ck, prone to beating up random motorists and being ignorant to his hard working single mom.

However, like Fianna I thought it was pretty accurate. Rich kid tough guys, wannabes, skanks, over-bearing parents, You Tube making a fighter famous before he's done anything. It was a microcosmos of MMA. If anyone over the age of 15 walks into my gym saying they've seen this and want to train, I'm going to send them elsewhere I think.
