Hey macphags (I mean this in a loving and endearing way),

I have s shiny two/three month old mac book, and the speakers seem to have broken. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this and if so is it a simple patch or a go back to the factory job.

I have used headphones with my mac a lot, but the last time I did the speakers refused to work again :( jealous beast. Its nothing to do with my selected device, its on internal speaker, yet the speaker port/whole (place head phone goes into lol), its light is on. I have tried doing cmd p+r on restart to reset my preferences but notha.

At the moment there actually working but only after I hit it >.> , see hitting things does make them better, but I know if I put headphones in again they will break.

yeah, i believe this is a known issue with the headphone port.

If it's any consolation, the headphone port on my powerbook can be tempermental at times too.

get in touch with apple.....it is a known problem.

the microswitch in the headphone jack has likely failed.....they should sort it for you.... new macbook or at least a replaced motherboard.....this is my preferred recommendation.....give it a whirl first

or from the apple support forum

    Hi all!

I write this most enthusiastically ... the toothpick did the trick. I stuck it in gently ... pointing the sharp tip end at about 6 o'clock ... and you will hear a very mechanical "click". The red light went off, and System Prefs reflected this immediately.

I can vouch this is NOT a software problem. It's all about a catch getting stuck.

Crappy Jack: stars and salutes to you. You just saved me a 3 hour journey to the closest service shop, and days of lost productivity.

This discussion group is far more helpful than Apple techs ever are.

    Awesome! =) "

I had a big long thread about this last year, where I had this problem and found a solution. Have a search for 'headphone' and 'jack' in the forum, you shoud find it.
